Kissing Michael was everything she had fantasized it would be. Since she had met him, she had tossed and turned fitfully on her beds a few nights, tortured with thoughts of imaginary e----c bouts where they were so entwined that she didn’t know where she ended and where he began. The kiss was a manifestation of her fevered fantasies; his firm lips pressing against her soft ones as his tongue duelled with hers, their slick m0anstravelling down each other’s throat. He s----d on her puffy upper lip and she m0aned a little louder, a pang of pure lust shooting down to the pit of her stomach as she pushed her pelvis against his, blindly seeking something instinct told herwas hers for the taking. It was that very jolt of awareness that brought her back to her senses. What was she doing, standing in the middle of the house she lived in with her daughter, kissing a man whose intentions she wasn’t yet sure of? Thinking of fulfilling allher pent-up desire right there on the living room floor, next to her daughter’s teddy bear? Pooh the bear would be traumatized.

When she stepped away from him, Michael reached out to pull her back.“Stop.” Susan said hoarsely, throat tight with desire. She cleared her throat. “We shouldn’t be doing this, Michael.”He stared down at her, his dark eyes still narrowed with longing she recognized. For a moment, he looked like he would ignore her words and pull her against him again.

She caught her breath at the intensity of his gaze, a part of her hoping he would d--n the consequences and kiss her once more.

Michael looked away and stepped back from her, his jaw clamped tight.“I’m sorry. You’re right.” he gritted. “There are important issues to talk about.” he speared her with another heated look. “This can wait till later.”She shuddered at the promise in his words and changed the topic hastily, moving to a seat far from where he stood. “The police…?”“I came here immediately after they left my house.” Michael affirmed. His brow furrowed as he remembered the visit. “They came within inches of accusing me of abducting or murdering your husband.”“Ex-husband.” Susan corrected in a mutter, her mind working frantically. “Howcould they be suspecting us so easily? Asuquo is a rich man, prime target for kidnappers. I’m just baffled that the police are taking this route.”“The policeman who seemed to be in charge of the unit that visited me, that Inspector Samson, seemed sharper than the usual Nigerian policeman.” Michael shrugged. “He said they talked to some of your neighbours and they told the police I was your boyfriend, so… I guess they just connected the dots they liked.”“So they just take my neighbours testimony as gospel?” Susan said, brow raised in amazement. “So it’s in this case that Nigerian police are now forming Sherlock Holmes, abi? Connecting the dots indeed.”A small smile crossed over Michael’s lips. “Well, we’ve been spending a lot of time together. It’s only to be expected that they would believe the neighbours.”Susan nodded grudgingly, and then she looked at Michael with concern. “I… I was worried about you.

The police, were they rough with you? You know how they usually are with their own questioning.”Michael’s smile disappeared, but before Susan could read his reaction clearly, he moved to a sofa and settled into it. Facing her, he further hid his feelings under a shrug. “They weren’t friendly, but I’ve had them treat me worse. I think that Samson guy had a lot to do with why they were a bit more civil than usual.Susan started to nod, and then stopped, struck by his words. What did he mean by saying they had treated him worse before?“In my opinion, it’s good riddance to bad rubbish.” Michael was still speaking. He leaned back in his seat and drummed on his thighs with big hands, a frown on his face. “Your ex was bad news. You and I both know he would have taken your daughter away that day if I had not followed him to your house. This whole thing might be a blessing in disguise, sorry if I sound cold. I don’t think you needthat man in your life or that of your daughter. You’re both better off without him.”Susan listened to him speak, her alarm increasing. In truth, what did she know of Michael? Other than the fact that he was asenior teacher at Cherish’s school and he was possibly widowed, she didn’t really know much else about him. Her lust had blinded her to the fact that he was essentially a stranger endorsed by her daughter’s school.Michael finally noticed Susan’s silence. Heleaned forward. “Are you okay? You’re notsaying much.”Susan stared at him. Her heart said he was trustworthy, but her brain was screaming at her. He’s not just a widower! His wife is missing, disappeared for years and now your ex-husband is also missing? Coincidence? I think not, Susan. Better wise up and use your head; this man may be more than he appears to be.When Michael leaned forward to take her hand, she shocked them both by jerking away. Her heart pounded as he stared at her in surprise, but doubt still filled her mind. What if he was truly responsible for her husband’s disappearance?
