The haunted bride - Season 2 - Episode 2

A thorn of jealousy pricked his flesh immediately. Aniekan knew that Seun wasn’t in a serious relationship. Right from their days in the University, girls were easily drawn to Seun. Aniekan was quite sure that Elena wouldn’t be an exception to Seun’s charms.

“And here I was thinking that Beyonce Knowles was the most beautiful woman in the world…” the words fell from Seun’s lips.
Just in time, Elena reached where both men stood. She’d noted the other man that stood with Aniekan. He was an attractive brown skinned man. His eyes seemed kind, and he was flashing a smile her way. Elena had wanted to ignore him and move on, but she quickly remembered that this was her first time in the Games Village, and she wasn’t sure of where to go.

She paused and moved towards the men. Though Aniekan had gotten her upset, the truth was this: he was still her boss. The only way to get over his constant bad -mouthing was to avoid him completely.

“Good morning sir,” Elena grinned.
“Sir?”Seun chuckled.

“My angel, you don’t need to call me that. You just made me feel old.” With this, Seun did the unthinkable. He moved towards Elena and grabbed her left hand.
“Call me Seun,” he caressed her fingers, while Aniekan watched angrily. How could Seun attempt to flirt with Elena right before his eyes?

Elena felt her skin tingle, but in a good way. Though Seun was handsome, she wasn’t attracted to him like that; she saw him as a funny and friendly person. She wished Aniekan could be this way with her. Their relationship with each other, would’ve improved.

“What should I call you then?” Elena asked in a soft voice.

Aniekan bit his lip. He quickly pulled out a phone from his pocket. He couldn’t look Elena in the eyes, without her knowing that he equally felt something. She could never know that he was jealous. Aniekan was determined to push Elena out of his mind. The last time that he felt so strongly about a woman ended up in a disaster. Imaobong’s death had shattered him.

“Baby Boo,” Seun winked and Elena’s crackling laughter filled the air. The sound of her voice seemed to calm his fears. Her laughter reminded him of Imaobong’s laughter; soothing and sweet. No matter how hard he tried to keep Elena away from his mind, she always came back.
Aniekan decided that he had enough of their flirtatious behavior.

“Um, see you inside then. The board meeting should begin in a few minutes.” Aniekan tapped his friend on the shoulder and walked away. Seun was too engrossed in flirting with this beauty, to notice his friend’s absence. Elena was the only one who noticed it.
She wasn’t sure, but Elena had seen a wave of anger over Aniekan’s features. It bothered her. Had she done anything to upset him again? Every moment that she spent around him, Elena learned new things about Aniekan.

“Why are you off so soon? You didn’t introduce us properly,” Seun scoffed. He was surprised at his friend’s attitude.
Aniekan shrugged, “You two are getting along fine. I’ll see you inside.”

When Aniekan was far away, Seun winked.
“It seems your boyfriend is jealous.”
Elena laughed, well, she didn’t find his assumption offensive. It was hilarious, because Aniekan didn’t even like her like that. He had made it obvious that she was a kid. Besides, he was too busy working on his new game.

“Okay, I don’t know where your head is, but Aniekan isn’t my boyfriend. I happen to be…” Elena bit her lip. She didn’t know this man very well, so it was wrong to discuss deeper things with him.

Seun waved her fears off, he sensed her reluctance to continue the conversation. And he knew exactly why. Any sane person wouldn’t divulge personal information to someone they hardly knew.
“Well, it’s not every blogger that writes slanderous news about him that he will bring into the white house.” Seun winked. Seun wanted her to know that he was aware of the role she played, in almost ruining Aniekan’s career with her piece.

A small smile curled the corners of her mouth, Elena had a feeling that he had a close relationship with Aniekan.
“We should go in. Today is my first day at Games Village and I don’t want to be late. My boss wouldn’t like that.” Elena smiled. She didn’t know anything about the stranger, but she liked him. Seun was easy going, and friendlier than Aniekan had ever been.

He knew she was trying to avoid him. He smiled and pulled her gently.
“My name is SeunLare. You don’t have to be afraid of me. I don’t bite. I and your boss have been friends for a very long time.” He saw the need to introduce himself properly.

That explained it now. Elena thought that his name was familiar.

“SeunLare…that’s a nice name; do you work here?” She inquired.

Seun had wanted to tell her the truth; he wasn’t working at Games Village. He was just a silent partner. But now that she asked, he could start working with Aniekan. Elena was a very beautiful lady, and he had a penchant for pretty things.

“Um, yes. I work here.” He answered boldly and a bit swiftly. Maybe if he had said it slowly, Elena would have sensed his lies.
She shrugged, “I am Elena Benjamin. I guess you already know what landed me here. Aniekan wants to give me a job.” She paused there, no one could know that her working at Games Village was a sort of punishment, for the article that she had written against him.

The pair decided to stroll towards the conference hall, where all important meetings were being held.
“How long have you been working here?” Elena asked softly.

He sighed and tightened his grip on her hand.
“As long as the beginning,” he said.
They continued walking, this time quietly. Elena felt safe with Seun; she had found herself a new friend. He was going to show her the ropes. All she wanted was efficient results in all the duties she would be given. Aniekan had been gracious to let her go without paying the price for her carelessness.
She would try her best for his company

They were at the entrance of the hall, when a slender brown skinned lady approached them. She wore a silky yellow skirt, which was very short and obviously inappropriate for the meeting. Her long black hair flowed to the middle of her back. She had sparkling golden eyes with long lashes and her lip wear emphasized the thickness of her lips.
Elena couldn’t deny the attractiveness of the slender woman. But she wasn’t comfortable with the way the indecently dressed lady, eyed her. If looks could kill, Ms. Short Skirt would have sent her to hell.

Elena ran a mental check and wondered if she had met this woman before. Satisfied that she hadn’t met her, Elena’s fears were calm. It baffled her that one would stare at a stranger with such meanness.
“Good morning Mr. Lare, I was wondering why you hadn’t showed up for the meeting. I now see what delayed you…” the lady ran her eyes over the creamy skinned beauty that she saw as a competition.

Regina had always admired SeunLare. Right from the day he had walked into the reception hall, and requested a meeting with her boss, Aniekan Umoh, Regina had fallen in love with him. He was a very attractive man, and he had cash. Such men were classy. And she found it difficult to resist his charming nature.
