The haunted bride - Season 3 - Episode 17

Usually, his presence would have irked Tamar to the bone, but she had been every quiet. Elena had also caught her mother, staring absently into her father’s eyes. Were they having sex? Were they getting back together?
‘That would be great’. Elena chuckled as she descended the stairs.
She knew her mother wanted to give her an extra round of advice, on the way she would live peacefully at the white house. Tamar spoke to her everyday concerning this matter. Her mother wasn’t comfortable with the lawyer. She saw something evil in the woman, even though Elena was yet to tell them how Ada locked her up in an old room.
“Elena!” Tamar’s voice grew louder. She was in the kitchen, making a smoothie with aloe-vera and cucumber. And she wanted Elena to have some.
‘I am almost there’! Elena shouted back. Just as she was about to land on the last case, her phone beeped thrice; she had three messages. She quickly raised the phone closer to her face, and tapped on the message icon. It was Aniekan!
Elena couldn’t believe he’d texted her after many days he got her number.
‘He sent me three messages’. She held her breath and glued her eyes to the phone.

ANIEKAN: Hello?

ANIEKAN: Hello?

ANIEKAN: Hello? Are you sleeping? I just wanted to see if you’re okay, smallie.
Elena rolled her eyes at the last word. She didn’t like being called, “smallie.”

ELENA: Good evening sir.

ANIEKAN: I told you to drop that.

ELENA: Hmm, I am good. Thank you.

ANIEKAN: My name isn’t that difficult or you could go for muffin.

Fifteen minutes had passed since she called upon her daughter, but Elena had failed to show up. Tamar grabbed a glass of the green juice and decided to stroll towards Elena’s room. To her greatest surprise, Elena was in the living room. And she had a complacent smile on her face.

Her eyes glowed as her fingers worked on the phone. Tamar noticed that her daughter was blushing. Due to her absence, she didn’t know much about Elena’s love life. But from the look of things, Elena had a man who knew the right buttons to press.

‘I hope he is a rich guy. You know I love the best for my children’. Tamar dropped a glass on the centre table and balanced in a cushion chair.

Her mother’s sharp voice made her heart skip. She’d been caught off-guard. From the look of things, Aniekan was flirting with her. Why would you want an employee to call you “muffin?” He was definitely flirting! And for some strange reason, Elena liked it. She liked him.

‘I don’t understand mom’, she quickly turned off her phone and stared at Tamar’s questioning eyes.

Tamar pointed at the glass on the table, ‘you should drink that, it helps to detoxify. Detoxification is good for soon-to-be brides. I hear one of the benefits is easy conception’. Tamar winked.
Elena scoffed and decided to ignore the woman. She was still mad that her mother had tried to sell off Eno and Cassandra, but she had to get over it. Tamar may be materialistic, but she loved her dearly and wanted the best for her.

‘I don’t have a man if that’s what you’re asking. I am in my early twenties, and I am working towards great achievements and a solid career in writing’.
Tamar rolled her eyes, ‘you’re such a bad liar honey. Of all my daughters, I see myself in you. You are very hard working. But that shouldn’t stop you from finding love. Hold onto that man you are chatting with, I have a feeling he is a good guy’.

Elena smiled and grabbed the glass.

‘I don’t have a boyfriend mother’, Elena insisted.

While they were both arguing, her father strolled in from his bedroom. Mr. Benjamin had found it difficult to sleep; thoughts of his honeymoon consumed his mind. He remembered how beautiful a bride Tamar was. They had been very young, happy and full of dreams. But she changed after two years, and that was when his life became a living hell.

His reflection made him wonder where he had gone wrong.

‘What are you two bickering about’? he settled in a chair close to Elena.
‘Your daughter here has a boyfriend, but she doesn’t want to admit’. Tamar flashed her teeth in a smile. She was starting to loosen up in his presence. Sometimes, her own actions confused her. Why was she drawn to the same man she’d despised?
Elena blushed, ‘I don’t have a man mom’!
