Me: Ethan I’m someone who is loaded with money which won’t run put anytime soon.What would I
be coming there for?

Ethan: Stop being hard headed bro.

Me: Fine but just know that after what they did to me,letting me eat out of dustbins is a scar that
will always paint they as arrogant parents to me.Im on my way.
I hanged up.

Me: Get ready we are going to my parents

Rudzi: What?

Me: Ethan called saying something about sitting down and talking as adults so get ready.

RUDZANI
What Lesley was saying was making me sweat.Im not ready to meet his parents especially after
what they did to him.If they are capable of doing that to him then what would stop them from
hating me.

Me: I don’t think I’m needed there Les. I will stay behind.Or I will call Shaz to help me look for a
job.

Les: Job for What? Don’t start with me Rudzani.You don’t need to work when we have all this
money.I will open an internet cafe for you..As for me i will make sure I get a job..Now get ready so
that we go meet your future monsters in law.

Me: Did you have to say that? Mxm
Les was not making the situation better because I was already stressed out..
I had already bathed so I wore a long black dress with a blazer because it was chilly outside.

Les: You should have just worn some leggings and a crop top that will expose your beautiful
African body.
I laughed.

Les: After what they did they don’t deserve respect from me.

Me: Les you may be fighting with them but that doesn’t mean I have to get involved in the
fight.One day you may wake up and fix this so where will that leave me? If there is something I
learnt from my mom that was respect.She may have shown me tough love but she taught me to
respect my elders

I playfully hit his shoulder.

Les: Lets go

We got in the car and he drove off.

They say love is blind and I guess that is whatit has turned me into.It has turned me into a blind
parent.My relationships never lasted hence I made sure that I do anything in me to keep
Derrick.Even when I saw that at some point he was abusing my children I turned a blank eye.My
reason for my treatment towards Rudzani is because of her father..

FLASHBACK
When I was 17years old in grade 11 I had a sister who was 26 years old and married to a man
who was 30 years old.My sister was someone who was so much dedicated to her job which
required her to travel alot..Whenever she travelled she would ask me to come to her house to look
after the kids because her house help was not a stay in.When the kids were asleep her husband
would come to my room and sleep with me.He was my first and he never forced me.He was a
sweet talker so I agreed to it all.He never used protection with me but instead he would give me
money for morning after pills whenever he would sleep with me.It was one rainy day which my life
changed forever.Like always my sister was not around….She left in the evening to take the
evening flight to Cape town.I was with her husband as always..When he was done he slept next to
me.Most of the time he doesn’t sleep in the room it only started recently that he does.

I pretended to be asleep..The door swung open and I heard a scream.It was my sister.

Her: Had my flight not be cancelled a…al..all th..th..Funi!!!
She was crying and shouting.

Her: Get out of my house you hoe. Under my roof? With my husband?

I quickly got out of bed and she took her husband’s belt from the floor and started whipping
me.She did it until I couldn’t move on the cold tiles.She was even using the steel side of the belt.I
felt like my skin was cut open.

Hen: Honey stop.you will kill her.

Her: Let me go.How could you do this? With my younger sister.

They went out and I struggled to get up..I wore my dress carefully but the pain was just
unbearable..He could have stopped her but he stood there and watched her do this to me.He was
the one who approached me.He was the one who came to my room.

I slowly walked out out of the room.

Her: You better not tell our parents about this or else I will ruin your life for good.
I limped my way out..I didn’t have money,I didn’t have a phone I was just a teenager whom was
taken advantage of..

A good Samaritan man found me sitting on the streets and saw my state.He took me to his
house.He was living on the same street as my sister.I was now wet due to the rain.He looked like
a doctor so he cleaned my wounds without even asking me questions.He gave me pain pills and I
slept after that .
