Story: True Life Story Of An Addict

The flash light from an on approaching car suggested to me that that might be Deola’s. I’ve been waiting for her almost an hour, praying she comes quickly so that I won’t be there alone. My guess was right, it was Deola. She highlighted from her car, looked left and right apparently in search for me. When she saw no one, she opened her gate and drove in. I came out from where I was seated waiting for her when she was about locking the gate,

Deola: Are you just coming? I thought you said I’ll meet you at the gate.

Me: Yes. When my legs became too heavy of standing, I looked for a place to sit.

Deola: I am sorry. I think it’s hightime I gave you my spare key back. The story would have been different if you had a key with you.

Me: Thank God you realized. Can we go in now, please?

I excused myself, feigning I wanna pee. I used one of the two visitor’s toilet outside the house while she went inside. The serenity of the place looked convincing enough to make Ini think I am actually back home. So, I dialed her number to inform her. I spoke quietly lest Deola overhears my conversation with Ini.

Me: I am back home baby. How are you now?

Ini: I still don’t know what’s wrong.

Me: Maybe you should pray or something. Besides, have you told your sister about it?

Ini: She’s not back yet, but her husband is.

Me: Why not tell him about it? He might be able to help.

Ini: No darling. We hardly talk. I’ll wait until my sister arrives.

Me: That reminds me: what about the number now? You said you’ll send it to me once you can confirm that I am back home.

Ini: My king, it is a little complicated. Tell me, who will you tell her you are if she ask?

Me: That I am your boyfriend, no, fiance of course.

Ini: Hahahaha. You’re funny. Let me be plain with you, she’s always warned me about dating outside our tribe. So, the last thing I want now is to get her upset. Let’s just keep things quiet as it is now until, maybe, she finally sees the reason to embrace other tribes as humans too.

Me: I disagree. I will not have you cage me. Are you saying I can’t be seen with you in your house?

Ini: My king is angry. My love is upset. I do not mean to get you angry my love. You know what, let’s leave it aside. But, I may not give you her number as promised; at least not today.

Me: You tricked me abi? Weldone.

Ini: Not so love. You know how much I love you. I have given my body and heart to you alone. There is nothing about me that you don’t know. You’re the only one in my life, my love, my joy, my king…

Me: Tell me, for the first time in the history of our love making Ini, you acted strange today. It seems your mind is somewhere. What really happened to you today? I thought I spoke with you earlier and you were lively. What now happened?

Ini: Hmmmm. Baby, I had a bad dream today.

Me: Dream? How is that possible? You’re at work now. Or are you allowed to sleep at work?

Ini: Not really. I was weak from the inside today. So, I decided to lay my head on the table for a short nap.

Me: Ok. I am listening. What did you see?



Ini: It’s scary baby, and I am really afraid.

Me: Please stop this. You’re making me scared too by your utterances.

Ini: I am sorry. It’s just that the whole thing frightens me.

Me: Let it out… Wait please.

I checked to see if Deola is lurking around. What it was all clear, I told Ini to continue.

Ini: Where did you go to?

Me: Nowhere.

Ini: Ok. When I slept briefly today, I saw myself standing with some people waiting for vehicle. As I was standing, I felt the touch of an old woman from my back. “Who did you offend my daughter”, she asked me in my dialect. With my back turned to the highway, “No one”, I replied. She shook her head and said, “Life is harsh!” I was about to ask her what she meant by that statement before I saw people shouting and gesturing to me to move. When I looked back at where the old woman was standing, she was gone! Seconds later, something knocked me down…and I died!

Me: Jesus! You shall not die but live. I forbid your death. No, you will not die.

Ini: Amen. That’s the reason I wasn’t myself when I came to your house. I am scared as hell.

Me: I am scared too. I mean, this is a terrible, terrible dream. The old woman you saw, have you seen her anywhere before?

Ini: No, I haven’t. That’s what scared me most.

Me: Ini you will not die in Jesus name oooo.

Ini: Amen.

When I heard the sound of a footstep walking towards the toilet, I quickly placed Ini on hold lest Deola finds out I was talking to someone else.

Deola: What are you doing in there? Are you giving birth ni?

Me: I am sorry jare. I will be out soon, ok?

Deola: Ok oo. Food is almost ready.

When she went back inside, I unhold the call,

Ini: Why did you place me on hold?

Me: Sorry baby. One of my fingers pressed the hold burton mistakenly. So, as I was saying, relate this dream with your sister ok?

Ini: That’s if she’s back on time.

Me: Ok. I’ll call tomorrow, ok?

Ini: Ok. Pray for me o.

Me: Sure I will.
