EPISODE 3

Mum opened the door. We could see tears on her face. Mum had been crying. She sat on her bed. “What’s wrong mum?” I asked her. Alexa was hugging her. I saw some files and her wedding ring on the floor. Mum was filing for divorce. I knew it. “Am tired of everything. Of the fights and maltreatment. In college we were perfect together but after marriage everything changed. He just stopped caring ” Mum lamented. “Wait! Are you filing for a divorce? Mum that can’t be possible. You and dad are happy together. You are both the best parents. Or is it because he is serving in Iraq? Don’t worry mum he’s gonna be through with it soon.” Lexa said smiling. She didn’t understand. Lexa had been in boarding school when dad and mum were always fighting. Mum had scars from dad’s maltreatment. She never reported to the police. Dad beat her everyday, was sometimes drunk and was cheating. Mum deserved better. I hated the way he made mum cry. It affected me psychologically. When he was transferred to Iraq for service. I was happy. Mum really missed him. She was very surprising.

Dad quit boxing and was now in the army. I was happy mum had realised he was a cow. “Am proud of you mum. This is the best decision ” I encouraged her. Alexa punched me “How would you support mum? Have always boasted that my parents are going to be together forever. Dad loves mum!” Alexa disagreed. She was almost crying. I couldn’t cope with two skinny females crying. I wanted to escape. “Dad did that to mum. It wasn’t an accident. She lied” I revealed to Lexa pointing to mum’s arms. They had bruises over. Lexa covered her mouth and ran out of the room. “I met someone Marc. And I’m getting my lawyer. I’m Tired of it all” She said in tears. I didn’t like seeing the beautiful people in my life cry. Yes i love my sister and mum but would never tell them. I can go any length to protect them. I really hated my dad. He put my mum through a lot. I could hear Lexa crying. It was very difficult for her.

“Lexa everything will be okay. Mum is moving on. We should support her” I urged. “Why didn’t you all tell me? Why did you hide it? What else have you been hiding? “She asked. “That You’re ugly” I answered. Lexa hissed and walked away. I really didn’t know how to handle things. I drove to MacDonald when everything was under control. I met my pretty Lee in a very tight dress. She was struggling with it. I saw some girls laughing. “Hey bones! Close your mouths” I insulted and walked to Lee. I gave her a kiss on the head. She turned red. “What are we having? ” She asked. I ordered soda, burgers, chicken and chips and so many junks. Lee was smiling brightly. I wasn’t gonna starve her. Lee was a big eater. She munched and munched. I liked it. My money wasn’t going to waste. I ate little. We had ice cream later. “So tell me about you” I said.

“Am Lee Murphy. My mum is Korean. Dad is white. We live in a big house. I have a step brother. He is from my mum’s first marriage. He is a black Korean. You understand what I mean right. Am more of a daddy’s girl. Am 18. Am in my final year. But I have one problem. No one wants to take me to the prom cuz am fat. And I have no friends.”
I shook my head “Don’t care about what anyone says. Am also 18 going on 19. Am done with high school last year. Gonna start working then college.” Lee was staring at me intensely.
“You are cute. Very cute. I love your brown eyes and your pink lips. No cute boy has ever asked me to be his friend.

Oh Yeah! Just Todd cuz he wanted me to be the clown in 3rd grade.” She said. I liked her very much. She was not as shy as I thought. Then i heard laughter. “So he’s actually the fat girl’s man. Wonder how he would carry her to bed. Girl go and work out.” The same girls said. They all laughed again. I got up in anger. Things weren’t going to be good.
