My Best Friend

I got to my room, I was really fast with refreshing up again, as for the diary; I tore the part where I wrote about having s*x with Jeff,
wrapped it and threw it away. “Jennifer, c’mon be fast there’s no time” Jeff said. I sighed and was still looking for money in my
bag, he called my name again. “Jennifer! Are you there?”

Ummmmmm yeah.. give me a sec. I said with a face like this ‘

‘ I got the money and opened the door, turned out he was standing in front of my door waiting,

Me: you seeee…. I’m done. Let’s go

Jeff: you look good

Me: thanks, now let’s go *I dragged him*

We were outside the house, when he was about to open the gAte,
I remembered pamela, my face changed I could tell

Jeff: hey are you ok? *he could tell something was wrong*

Me: yeah! I’m fine. Nothing really. … it’s the sun

Jeff: *confused * the sun?

Me: did I say the sun?

Jeff : *laughs * please let’s go

Me: how we are gonna close the gate?

Jeff: I’ll close it from inside

Me: oh!

Immediately someone called my name, I turned around to know who and was scared, cause I don’t know anybody in this
neighborhood. It was obinna he was even acting as if we know each other very well, someone I just met today

Me: what?

Obinna : Nothing I just wanted to greet you na, it seems you’re going out?

Me: yes * I was now looking at Jeff* That one was totally confused, like he doesn’t really know what’s going on here

Me: Jeff don’t you know him? * confused *

Jeff : not really, who is he?

Me: ummmm I met him this afternoon, he lives over there *pointing the place*

Jeff : ok so?

Me: jeez! Like seriously you don’t know him? *looking at obinna* do you know him?

Obinna : *laughing like a goat * um no pamela’s brother I guess

Jeff: yeah what’s up?

Obinna : good, is pamela in?

Jeff : yeah, she’s inside

Obinna : ok then lemme see her. Jennifer I’ll see you later na

Me: yeah sure Jeff opened the gate for him and told him to close it from inside, while we left.

We took a cab with us and got to the place. It was a friend’s house. Jeff pulled me close and was holding my hands.

He told me to press the bell, since I could reach it and I did. For like a second, someone opened the gate. It was a guy.

Immediately he came out and rushed Jeff, my hands cut off from his, cause we were holding each other. The guy was hugging and hailing him.

“Jeffrey! My man! Na guy u 2 much, chai! Oga m” yhe guy yelled. I was standing there and folded my hands. Jeff was still laughing and hailing the guy too. Immediately the guy
cleared his throat and asked who I was, Jeff laughed and said
“you don’t know her? I thought you do” the guy was confused, even me too I was confused and mad.
“Na guy I no know her o” he said. He even came closer and was looking at me. I was not
happy with the little scene being played here.

So I smacked Jeff on his head to cut the crap. Jeff laughed and pulled me close.
He now said to the guy “Austin’s little sister” I looked at him and looked at the guy and looked at Jeff again.
“Who is this guy” I said in my mind. The guy was like, “which austin abeg”? Jeff
laughed. “How many Austin you know”? This time around I needed this little drama to be over, so I jumped into the conversation. I was like, “does he know my brother”?

I was asking Jeff. Jeff said, I should wait. The guy now said, “oh! Scofield” he said. Jeff replied him, “Now you come” this time
around I was shocked, because who ever calls my brother “Scofield” was really close to him, or went to the same high school with him, so immediately I looked at the guy, he was
looking at him, He was like, “so I guess this is Jennifer” Jeff smiled and said yes.

The guy came closer to me and asked if I knew him, I got confused and mad. Few minutes ago, you never really know me and you expect me to know you to, I said in my mind.
“No, I don’t really know you. I smiled and said.

There was a huge blur scar on his face, I was looking at it, the scar made me realize that I do him, I was still thinking, I was like,
“speedy” he laughed and said, “wow! So you even remember me?

” I said yes. I was about to say that the scar on his face made me to, but I felt it was kinda rude, so I shut my mouth Speedy: that’s nice, you are all grown and beautiful

Me : yeah thanks

Speedy: so what about your bro? It’s been long man

Me: he’s good

Speedy: is he in port too?

Me: no, just me alone.

Speedy: ok that’s good. You’re staying at Jeff’s

Me: yeah with pamela

Speedy: *laughs * she’s not with you guys? *looking at Jeff *

Jeff : no, she’s at home

Speedy: Alright, are you guys d….. *Jeff interrupted immediately

Jeff : * laughs * um *I was looking at him*

Me: ewwww, we are not! That’s ridiculous

Jeff : * pulls me* so we are not?

Speedy: *laughs * you guys are funny. I totally understand, come inside

Me : iya! We got inside the house. It was really big and well furnished.

The couch were puffy and kinda comfy. I noticed that there was a guy sitting down at the other end, I didn’t get to see his face, he was
busy with his phone. So speedy told me to sit down and I did,
while he went outside with jeff. Only God knows what they are discussing . I was still looking around the house, when the guy sitting at the end shouted Jesus!
I was shocked and looked at him, I never really recognized him at first, but he did.

“Jennifer! ” he shouted. I was confused, I was like, what da hell is going on here? I stood up and to my surprise. It was “paul”
(oh! God tell me this is not happening, what am I going to so?

Jeff! Arrrrgh! And now paul, take me away, lord) I said in my mind. He came closer, cause I stood there and shocked and didn’t say a word, I think my eyes were not blinking, they were wide open like this ‘ ‘. Immediately Jeff and speedy ran inside, I guess they heard paul’s unstoppable noise. He kept on shouting Jesus, I felt like slapping him , but I couldn’t raise my hand, it was stiff. Speedy asked what was going on, paul didn’t not waste time in replying him. “Nna guy! Na the babe be this! The one I told you about” he said, so happily. Jeff raised his left eyebrow and looked at him, confuse. I wanted to act dumb,
like I don’t know what was going on here, but it was too late to play games. Speedy laughed and said, “guy! E be like say this smirnoff don molest u, chai! Oya sit down, no dey harass my
visitors” I wanted to laugh, but I just held it in and covered my mouth. Paul got angry, like real angry!and said to me, “what have I done to you? You promised to see me, all of sudden you
stopped picking my calls and replying my messages” he said with a puppy face as if he wanted to cry. I felt bad. Speedy was confuse, infact him and Jeff were lost! They all started looking at me to say something, I just sat down on the couch, and inhale a lil bit, cause I was out of breath. I looked at the confused human
beings, I started reading their mind. I could tell Jeff was mad and really wanted to know if I know paul. I could tell speedy was enjoying the scene and can’t wait for my reply.

I could tell paul wanted to cry, if I dare deny not knowing him and he expects me to be truthful.

Me: um I know him, we met ummm I can’t even remember

Jeff: so you know him? Nice *he sat down and brought out his phone*

Speedy : *laughs * wow! You don make this my guy kolo, he’s always talking about you Chai *he sat down too and smacked

Jeff on his head*

Paul: *happy* um so how are you?

Me: *rolled my eyes* I’m good, thanks for asking

Speedy : * laughing like a goat * ok! Ok! Mystery solved. Paul my nigga! Is now ok, na guy you too much o*laughs * abeg! Wetin una want?

Me: I’m good

Jeff : I don’t want anything

Speedy : haba! Meaning? Abeg! Wetin una want?

Me: *looking at Jeff * um seriously I don’t want anything

Jeff : *looked at me and looked away* um what do you have?

Speedy : now you come! Your bae, sorry! I mean paul’s bae still dey form *I looked at him and rolled my eyes*

Jeff : guy abeg stop

Paul: wait o, um is he your boyfriend?

Me: look if you don’t have anything reasonable to ask me just don’t ask at all

Paul: sorry na *comes closer to me * Speedy : * laughs * nawa oh, Jeffrey I have anything just
mention

Jeff : you’re sttupid! Infact give me water

Speedy : just water? Ok he left

Me: *looking at Jeff * hey um do you have airtime?

Jeff : yes so?

Me : do you mind sending, I want to ask pamela something

Jeff : Why don’t you ask your boyfriend over there to do that for you *sighs*

Me : *shocked and disappointed* so you are just gonna insult me in front of a friend? Cool
Paul: hey, um I don’t mind sending *he said so sweetly*

Me : thanks but don’t bother
Speedy came in with the table water and gave it to jeff, he sat beside jeff and was laughing so hard, nothing was even funny. We were not even finding it funny, we all just looked at him and didn’t say anything. Jeff was busy with his phone, paul was still confuse and tried to talk to me, but I wasn’t giving him the
attention. I was so angry, mad, cranky. I just want to go away from here, I can’t stand the way Jeff looks at me.

The way speedy makes mockery of us, jeez! It was too much.

Wait! Why is he even mad at me? Am I his girlfriend self?
Mitcheew. I said in my mind. Immediately I got up and went outside, Jeff watched me as I left, you could tell he was mad.
Speedy asked me where I was going, I didn’t even reply him. I was now outside with my phone. I got a text from paul. It said.
: LOOK, I DON’T REALLY KNOW YOU, I KNOW THAT, BUT I DON’T MIND BEING YOUR SECOND BOYFRIEND, EVER SINCE I MET YOU, I COULDN’T GET YOU OFF MY HEAD, PLEASE DON’T BE MAD, AM NOT IMPOSING OR ANYTHING. I MEAN NO HARM, I SENT YOU THE CREDIT-: I just read it, it didn’t change my mood,
I thanked him for the airtime. I was still walking around the compound, when paul came out

Paul: so you’re just gonna stay outside?

Me: *looked at him* do I’ve a choice

Paul: I don’t get why your boo is being such a jackass No offense but he is!

Me: point of correction, he’s not my bf, secondly:thanks for the airtime. Thirdly: what do you want?

Paul: Nothing really, you saw my message right? *he came closer to me *

Me : you can’t be my bf or even the second one

Paul: * holds my hands* why?

Paul: I can’t leave you alone *holding me*

Me : look! I’ll scream! Are you insane. Let go of me

Paul: * lets go* sorry I don’t know what came over me. Forgive me please

Me: *looking at him angrily* you’re so sttupid! Get out of my face

Paul: please! I’m sorry

Me: * looking at him * fine, why don’t you go inside

Paul: I don’t want to Immediately speedy came out and asked what we were doing, I
didn’t say anything. I just left and went inside. Jeff was not in the living room, I didn’t bother to know where he was, I just sat down
and brought out my phone, I sent a text to pamela, she replied immediately, I was surprised! Pamela does not reply my
messages so fast.

Me: hey r u ok?

Pam : yes I’m fine, so you guys went out?

Me : yes, speedy’s house, you know him, right?

Pam : oh! Speedy. Yes. On your way back buy me oranges

Me: ok. See you then Jeff came in and sighed. He looked at me and didn’t say a word
to me, I was not expecting a word from him. Speedy and paul both came in, I guess they are both done gossiping about me.

Speedy laughed and pinched me, I rolled my eyes and told him to stop. He went over to Jeff, who was already laughing, with his phone, I guess he was texting. Paul told me he was leaving, I looked at him and said ok. He was still looking at me, I guess he wanted me to see him off, something like that, I Was confuse;
what about speedy?
The person you came to see. I said in my
mind. I couldn’t take it no more, I got up and we went outside

Me: um bye

Paul: can I kiss you!?

Me: kiss me? No

Paul: how about a peck?

Me: * laughs * ok fine

Paul: * he came closer and pecked me, see you soon

Me: yeah I hope so He left, while I went inside.

Speedy and jeff were saying something, immediately I got inside. They shut there mouth. I didn’t say anything to

Me: um where is the restroom?

Speedy : second door by your left

Me : aii I went to the restroom, when I got out. Jeff was now like we have to go, he was telling speedy! Not me

Speedy : na guy! U do well by coming to see me, it’s been long na

Jeff : yes * sighs * I no go forget my first nigga

Speedy : abi? So when are you going back?

Jeff : I don’t know sha, r u chasing me?

Speedy : * laughs * no o. Jennifer why are not you talking?

Me: * sighs * can we go now?

Jeff : * sighs* chill

Speedy : you guys are funny *laughs * abeg make una no take this little drama wey happen dey vex una selves

Jeff : please, I don’t have that time, as I was saying I don’t really know when am going back *he got up* na guy it’s late, I left my
sister at home alone

Speedy : * laughs * pamela can take care of herself jor, ok na make I escort una We left outside, he opened the gate and locked it. We were still walking up to a major road, he helped us find a cab, luckily I saw an orange girl at the other side of the road. I called her and bought the oranges for pamela. We got into the cab, and said bye to speedy. We left and so did he.
