She heard voices downstairs and decided to know what the problem was. She had taken at least two steps when she noticed her cell was vibrating, a glance at the caller I.d told her it was Joshua. She came to a halt when she descended the fifth step. She swapped the screen of the phone to take the call as she continued her journey down the stairs.
“Joshua, how are you?”
“I am fine but Robert is not”
“Robert? Robert Obiaku?”
“Yeah,the same Robert”
“What happened to him?”
“He’s dead. Suicide they say”
Fiona stopped. From where she stood,she had a clear visual on the three fellows that occupied the sitting room as of that moment.

“Whoa. That’s a pretty bad news”,Fiona said
“It is”
“No one would ever know what led him to do the unthinkable”
“What you’re trying to say is that you wished he were alive so he could testify against the goddess?”
“Yeah. I wish he left a suicide note”
“He did and it’s missing which makes me wonder if it was truly suicide or forced suicide- if there’s anything like that”
Fiona took a peek at them again, she was trying hard to hear what Tiara was saying but she couldn’t,not with Joshua on the phone. Pedro was saying something and so was Joshua but she could hear none.
She took the phone away from her ear and paid a closer,closer attention, only then,did she hear “…..acted on Garvin Saunders’ instruction or I say- ultimatum”
While Tiara turned hot,Fiona turned cold.

The light skinned man is his mid fifties was enjoying his morning cup of coffee when his cell rang.
His cell told him the call was coming from Nigeria, a country he had many histories with, most of them bad.
Not many people had his cell number. If he could count very well,they weren’t up to fifteen yet,many people in America would kill to have it.

His first thought was to ignore the call,even though he knew who the caller was. He wanted nothing to do with Nigeria but he found himself going for the receive button.

“Yes?”,Garvin answered, there was no time for formalities.
“Robert is dead”,Daniel went straight to the point. This was business and nothing else.
Garvin fell silent
“Paul’s present condition can easily be considered as dead”,Daniel continued “They are unto us”
“Who’s they?”
“I think you know the already. Come soon”
Daniel ended the call
Garvin stood up,he never knew a day like this would come but he knew one thing- he was always prepared. He was going to Nigeria.

“Garvin…. is….”,Liza stammered
Pedro was getting impatient “Garvin is what?”,he question
Liza took a deep breath and swallowed hard before she began “Garvin Saunders is my mum’s elder brother. He’s our uncle”
Fiona stood still. Phone in hand,she remembered when she had met with Garvin. She was six years of age then and Tiara,eight.
She remembered him well. She remembered him well because he has this power and authority around him.
He considered everyone around his subject. Even as a little child,she had noticed it.
She remembered him well because he was too white, perhaps the whitest man she has ever set her eyes on,and because whenever you asked him the colour of his hair,he would respond with a chuckle “Red”, and she would often go to bed wondering how the hair was red and always compared it with the colour red her class teacher had thought her.

She remembered him well because he had promised her, he would take her to meet the American president whenever she visits him in America. She had gone to school the next day and told her friends how her beloved uncle was friends with the president of the United States and how he had promised to take her to see the president and maybe she could even get to play with the President’s baby. She could see her friends burn with jealousy but that was none of her business because she had gone on,ranting what her uncle do and wouldn’t do.
She remembered him well because he always came with expensive toys for Tiara and her but Tiara was never really interested in toys. She remembered the beautiful, expensive barbie doll he had gotten for her, it had been her favourite and she had taken with her to school the next day to show her friends, once again, that her uncle was the best. Of course,her friends were jealous and wanted the doll for themselves.

She remembered him well because he quarrelled with her father. He never spoke to her dad in a low tone,he would raise his voice high and her father would follow suit and then,her mother’s high pitched voice would end it. She never cared to know what happened. All she wanted was for her uncle to keep coming and buying her expensive gifts and toys but he eventually stopped. He hadn’t spoken, called or written to her till date and he never took her to see the president.

He always loved it when they called him Uncle Gar.
The first time she had met with him,she had been three and Fiona, only a year old.

At three,she understood that Garvin was surrounded with money,even though she wasn’t supposed to notice that.
He had promised her many things. He had promised her,he would get her a private airplane when she clocks eighteen. Of course, she was interested in those kind of things, not some silly barbie doll.
He had promised he would hand over the Saunders’ Cooperation to her because he had thought the job suited her and she had the balls for it.
She always looked forward to Uncle Gar’s visit but it all ended when………
She could hear Pedro call her name as she turned to face him.
“Garvin Saunders is your uncle?”,Pedro asked
“Yes”
“An uncle wouldn’t do everything this paper said he did”
“Not Uncle Gar,he’s different”
“Why?”
“Because my mother defied his orders”
“How?”
“By marrying my father”
“That is……”
Liza interrupted “I’m sorry for interrupting but there are other people in that note. Such as the auditor”
“Who is the auditor?”,Tiara asked
Pedro took heavy breaths “Tiara,the auditor is my brother”
