Empress Li sighed in relief. Her chief maid spoke. “Your Majesty, but you swallowed some of the tonic, I will call the physicians.” Empress Li smiled. “Thank you Lady Dora but I don’t need a physician, my immune system detoxicates poison, no poison can harm me or my child, I know poisons enough to know that. Only one poison can affect and kill me and it’s only two people that can prepare it so relax.”
After this, they went back inside. Queen Lan was very angry that her plan to destroy Empress Li baby had failed but she was consoled with the fact that her people, the Philnians will never accept a mixed blood as the heir, so her son will definitely be the heir. All she needed to do was get pregnant.

Meanwhile outside the palace, in the Skornian towns and villages, Skornians were happy because their own Empress Li was pregnant. They believed there was still hope for them.

Throughout her months of pregnancy, Empress Li’s people treated her well, brought hygenic foods for her and the priestess helped and guided her through pregnancy but she never let her people know of her travails in the palace because they might rebel and perish even though they had a clue of what was happening.

On the day of her delivery when she went into labour, the physicians and mid wives were sent for but none came, they had been odered by Queen Lan not to attend to Empress Li. Luckily one of her maids knew the process of delivering a child so, her Chief maids and two other maids helped her out. The situation was reported to the Emperor and Empress Dowager but none of them came to her aid.

After almost twelve hours of labour, Empress Li gave birth to a baby boy, she named him ‘JilheVick Kan.’ Jilhe which meant ‘my joy’, Vick was her late father’s name and Kan was the Emperor’s name. Outside the palace, everyone was drunk with joy but the Queen was furious, no matter her scheme, Empress Li was aided by Heaven.

Jilhe grew quickly, he grew very handsome and resembled his mother even though his character was also like his father. He was very smart and intelligent but he grew up to witness his father’s absolute hatred for his mother, he was always called ‘My Lord’ instead of the normal and traditional ‘Your Royal Highness’ used for the first born sons and heirs. He was also not allowed to call the Emperor ‘father’ rather he called him ‘Your Majesty’
Irrespective of this everyone loved Prince Jilhe very much and one thing Empress Li would always teach him was “Jilhe, never hate your father, he doesn’t like me because he was forced to marry me and he loves you, he just doesn’t want to show it, that’s why.”
Because Jilhe loved his mother dearly, he listened to his mother and tried to stay out of the Emperor’s way.

Two years after Jilhe was born, the Queen also gave birth to a son named Kani, all that a prince required was given to him including respect. Jilhe never minded, he loved Kani like his own brother and Kani in turn looked up to Jilhe. He treated Empress Li like his mother since Queen Lan never had time for him, she was always poking her nose in politics.
“The way both of you are going outside the palace these days I hope all is well?” Prince Jilhe and Prince Kani looked at each other and smiled.

Empress Li frowned. “Why are you smiling? I asked you both a question. No answer is no play and no going out for two full moon.” They both widened their eyes in horror.
“No mother we just went out to see some kids that’s all.” Empress Li faced prince Kani “Is that true my child?” Prince Kani nodded “Yes, Your Majesty, there are some kids brother always teach and studies with. Then we heard Vian was sick so we went to check on her.” Empress Li smiled
“I believe you but who among you likes the girl?” Prince Kani quickly pointed at Jilhe. “It is brother not me.” Prince Jilhe nudged him. “Traitor” Empress Li laughed. “Jilhe you like someone and you can’t tell your mother?” Prince Jilhe looked at her “Am sorry mother, I was just scared that’s it.” “It’s okay my son, I also had a crush on someone when I was Kani’s age.”

Prince Kani’s face brightened. “Really? Is it father?” Empress Li shook her head. “No someone I thought I love but later realized I don’t.” Both of them nodded “Oh” Jilhe said. “Mother, we want a baby sister so that we can pamper, play with her and protect her.” Prince Kani nodded “Yes, she will be beautiful like you and we will teach her everything and always play with her.”
Empress Li was shocked but she couldn’t tell them both it was impossible, she didn’t want to hurt their feelings “That’s if heaven want us to have one. So both of you must always pray in the temple and be obedient always okay?” Both of them smiled and nodded “Thank you mother.” Then they both ran off to play.

After a while, Prince Kani went to visit Emperor Kan. “Father, good evening father.m Emperor Kan laughed. “How are you today my son?” Prince Kani smiled. “Am fine father,from the Royal library, I went with brother outside the palace then went back to Empress Li’s palace.”
Emperor Kan frowned. Prince Kani clearly loved Prince Jilhe and Empress Li than his own mother but he couldn’t blame the boy, he was lonely and his motheris carefree of how he spent his time. “Father, we want a baby sister. One as beautiful as Empress Li.” Emperor Kan was shocked, he didn’t expect that from his little son.
“Son, why Empress Li, why not your mother?” Prince Kani shook his head vigorously. “No, she would never care about her just she did with me. And you know girls need more care and treatment than we boys.” He smiled satisfied with his argument to convince his father.
Emperor Kan sighed. “Let see what will happen who knows, you might get your wish.” Prince Kani thanked and hugged his father and left for Prince Jilhe’s palace.

The Emperor thought that it was either Jilhe or his mother that put the idea in Prince Kani’s head so he retaliated. “To what do I owe this visit Your Majesty?” Empress Li was shocked to see Emperor Kan in her palace after ten years of avoidance.
