Must Read: Forever And Always

“Hey Mr and Mrs, Can I take a picture of you two?” A little boy said, tugging at my pyjamas. “Of course you could” Tola said, wiping her nearly dried up tears.

She reached for her purse and picked her small make up kit. She retrieved her powder from it and dabbed her face lightly with a small puff.

I stood next to Tola and then smiled broadly.
“Can you hold her hand please?” The boy questioned, directing his gaze to me. The parents came around and stood behind him, grinning as he brought out his polaroid camera and started taking pictures.

I turned around and stood face to face with Tola. I was about a foot taller than her so I was looking down at her. She placed her hand on my chest while I wrapped my hands around her waist.

With us like that, I felt like everything was right.
It was as if that was how things were meant to be.

The boy kept squealing with delight as we made different poses and he kept snapping away.

“Thank you so much” the boy said as he began waving around the Polaroid images he got from us. The waited for the images to appear and jumped with joy when he saw them.

I heard Tola’s soft laughter beside me, who would have thought something as simple as that would be so much fun.

“Here. Thank you!” He said as he handed some copies over to me. I bent down and ruffled the boy’s hair as I accepted the polaroid images from him.

“Thank you, you don’t know what you’ve done today boy. I will treasure this always” I said in his right ear before standing up to my full height. The boy nodded and waved us goodbye before returning to his parents.

I glanced down at the photographs the boy gave me. There were wonderful pictures.

There was one I had wrapped my hands around Tola’s waist with her hand on my chest, one I had carried her in a bridal style with her laughing elatedly, another one she had put her arm on my shoulder, pouting her lips and the last one was the one she had pecked me on my cheeks, just for the boy’s benefit. He was happy with the graceful poses.

“Wait here, let me get us some food” I said. Before she could say anything, I had dashed out. I returned few minutes later to see Tola leaning across one of the beams, taking in the view of the tall mighty building. I placed the tray of food on the slabs made of pure stones as well as the bucket of ice, bottle of wine and two champagne glasses.

“Am not sure you know how to eat this food but you’ll like it” I said, taking off the bottle cork with my hand and pouring wine into the glasses.
