I went to my drawer and fished out a pair of boxer shorts and singlet, fixating it securely on my body before I pulled back the floral bed spread and snuggled deep into the covers to try and get some sleep.
I tossed on the bed, trying to get sleep but it seemed to elude me. I picked up my phone and began to look at the beautiful selfies and pictures I had taken with the love of my life. I tried calling her to wish her a lovely night and a happy birthday in advance but her number kept going into voicemail. I smiled happily as I set an alarm on my phone. I wanted to wake up by 11:50pm so I could compose her a birthday message and be the first to greet her on her special day.
I dimmed the bedside lamp beside me and la!d on my back as I mentally began calling on forces governing sleep.
My phone rang beside me, I picked it up to check the caller. It was Tola’s mom.
“Hmm.. Maybe she wants to know the surprise I have for her daughter tomorrow” I muttered as I swiped to the right.
“Good evening mom!” My voice thrilled, almost like a complete and utter melody.
“Good evening mom!” My voice thrilled, almost like a complete and utter melody. “Alex… Alex.. Please come to George Fred hospital right now, I will text you the address.
I am dead, they’ve killed my daughter” Her voice cracked dissonantly as she broke into tears. “What?” I screamed, jumping out of the bed. The line went dead. “What’s happening? Tola? Dead? God, please don’t let this be true” my mind almost at the point of mental insanity as I looked around for my footwear. I rummaged through my wardrobe as I looked for what to wear. I quickly put on black button down long sleeved shirt and khaki shorts.
Looking for my car key, I felt like I was going to pass out from either my nerves or from how numb completely my body was. I stopped dead in my tracks, not being able to move as Mitch’s picture displayed in my mind.
“God! Mitch, you are so dead!”
I seethed. “Open the gate!” I mouthed loud enough for my gateman to hear.
He scurried outside and opened the gate, bewilderment masked on his face.
I zoomed out of the compound and checked my phone for the hospital’s address. With shaky hands and legs, I drove roughly to the hospital.
