My feet went cold like I was under some enchantment. The pain in my chest found its way to the deepest chamber of my heart. My tear glands didn’t have tears to discharge again. I just sat there on the bed brooding and watching my mom cry.

“Why?Why Alex?” I muttered as I felt hot ripples surge through my heart, threatening to shatter it into pieces.

I kind of heard the flapping of my heart as the door opened to reveal him entering into the ward with a bouquet and a big birthday cake.
‘When it comes to love, you just give your all. No question marks, just periods!” Alex’s voice boomed, making me go stupendous with my head spinning rapidly.

“Can someone tell me what is going on?” I asked, wheeling my chair to the door where Candice,Alex’s sister stood dressed in a beautiful knee length pink gown with a flower in her hand. She was part of my bridal train.

My mom was behind me with a sad expression on her face. They both stared at me with anxiety and fear. I wheeled the chair closer to them and held my mom’s hand. “Mom, tell me what has happened. We are gonna be late for church service if you keep standing there with Candice looking at me” I quibbled.

I was dressed in a wedding gown. Beautiful cute flat silver sandals adorned my feet. There was a shinning bright bouquet in my hand and my face was carefully made up by the best make up artist in Lagos -Omolayo Davies.

I gulped as I stared at my mom and Candice.

It looked like they were hiding something from me.

Twin tears escaped from my mom’s eyes.

I was confused. Today was supposed to be a day of joy. A day of happiness. A day a mother should proudly beat her chest that she has raised a woman who is getting married.
