Must Read: King Arthur

It was 5:15am when something woke me up, I did not know exactly what it was but I thought it was the ranging mosquitoes that now bugged my room, since there was no power and we were out of Diesel for the night. I covered myself with my blanket in an attempt to prevent the mosquito’s sting on my fresh skin*winks*. I slept off.

I was still sleeping when something else woke me up, this time I was sure it was the alarm on my reading table, close to my bed. I reached for my phone, still yawning, there was a text from Pearl, what does she want at this time of the night? I said to myself softly. I la!d back as I wanted to sleep again. Then I peeped through my window and saw that there was this immaculate sky outside, Shegbun! I screamed, today is another test oo, I said my morning prayers, did my house chores, and was getting ready for school, when I saw another text message, I decided to read both text messages, one from MTN and Pearl, these two people were kind of Pests especially the former. Mtn’s own was just some useless caller tune service…
Pearl’s own read;
“An amazing morning to an Amazing friend like you…” How I wished the text was from Vanessa, I instantly replied her with something similar, I equally sent a text to Vanessa, which was never replied.

That day at school, The Principal came to our class and announced the names of those in the school’s dinner planning committee, I was head, Pearl and Sade were Committee members along side two SS2 students and the Principal was Supervisory head.

The school dinner was in two weeks, it was a time when those who had potentials were seen, were those lovers proclaimed their love for each other, were Immoral things ‘used to’ happen, were we saw the best dancers, food glitons and so on, boys asked girls to be their dates but never vis-versa.

That day at school Vanessa did not come close or reply my text orally, that made me angry, I decided that I was not going to talk to her again, for as long as it takes.

That day I kind of had fun hanging out with Pearl all day, we talked for a long time, did stuffs together, then I remembered my dream when I saw her trinkets dangling, I complimented her trinkets, then she started frowning. I asked what the issue was then she told me it was her late grandma’s trinkets, she gave them to her before she died. Then I told her to put them away before a teacher sees it. At focus high school,
Trinkets, ‘bangles’, fancy watches, neck chains, and fancy shoes were not allowed and would be seized or the wearer or offender would be suspended. I was once suspended for two days, for trying on a friend’s ‘blings’.

The school bell blared twice indicating that it was time for us to go home, as Committee members we stayed behind, Pearl and I were together all through the meeting with the principal, we agreed to Pay 2,000 naira each, it was ok by us, the SS2 students suggested that we made each table for four people, we soon agreed, Natasha, one of the two SS2 students suggested that the catering contract be given to her mum.

Natasha’s mum, Mrs Agidi was a renowned caterer, she had a Popular eatery that was of high class. We all agreed to also remove 1,000 naira from the 2,000 that each student will pay for the Food and drinks. We had an estimated number of 200 students that were going to be in attendance out of 300 hundred Senior secondary students, because the dinner was only meant for Senior students, while Prom was meant for SS3 students alone.

The meeting closed, and we all headed home.

When I got hope I checked my phone to see if Vanessa had replied the text I sent earlier, I was disappointed when I saw an MTN text message, instead of a text from Vanessa. *My desires began* That moment, I wished the Mtn would just change to Vanessa.

When I headed towards the kitchen, mum was busy preparing for Dinner, we talked for a while before I dashed for the dinning table with my tray of food containing Hot banga soup and Starch, one of my favourites, in fact I loved anything starch or ‘draww’ soup.

Immediately I finished eating, I received a call from Pearl, we talked until she ran out of Airtime.
I called her back and we had a very long discussion, ***hey was I beginning to like Pearl? Yes I was, depending on your definition of Like*** We both ran out of airtime before dropping the phone. I was kind of happy.

That night was cold, I had to put off my room fan and still covered my body with a blanket…
