Must Read: King Arthur

The next day, owning to the cold, I wore one of those my James Bond jacket.

I left for school early, and my seat mate was already in school, she was quite an early riser.

I waved towards her direction, she came closer with that killer body and gave me a dashing hug.
We were becoming closer, I was now forgetting about Vanessa, I did not want to think about her anymore.

Vanessa seemed to have changed a lot, some one who was once the source of my happiness in school soon became a nightmare to me.

I wanted to go and talk to her but I was too shy and was a little bit scared, ‘What if she does not answer me or what if she responds coldly?’ I cooled off the idea.

Perhaps providence had better plans. It was time for our final Project before our final exams. We were shared in groups, but before then we were asked to pick a Paper at random, in the paper your group id was written. When I opened my Paper I saw ‘group 4’ boldly written with a teachers ink. Pearl was in Group 2, we were not too happy with the results of the draws.

Mr okon, our Math teacher, called everybody out in respect to the group they belonged to, he called Group one, guys dominated this group, Sade was in group 2, with Ruki, davies and Pearl.
Group 3 had by far the *no offence* the ‘laziest’ set of students I had ever come across, there was David the guy who had d poorest result last term, segun the guy teachers referred to as a bench warmer, Ladi the head of the gossip crew and finally Dumebi, she portrayed her character just like the one in the movie. I began to wonder were Vanessa was going to fall in, I concluded that Perhaps she’ll be in group 5. I was wrong, as her name was the first name that was called in group 4, then there was Rene, Bisi and Victor Adesan (me).

My gaze met with that of Vanessa, then I swiftly turned to face the class, I did not care who was in group 5 or 6. I knew Vanessa was going to protest the arrangement of the groups, and she was not going to succeed. So I cooked up a very brilliant excuse. Luckily for me Mr Okon bought the excuse, he changed me for Davies in group 5, I was now in group 5. Mr Okon looked at Vanessa who was still standing by his side and said something that sounded like ” hope you are satisfied” almost un audible, but I heard it clearly. Now I was in group 5 with the Maths Gurus in the class, these set of people had straight A’s and I was sure of getting one in math. I did not have to do anything in the group I only assisted in solving no mathematical problem at all.

It was friday, and after about 3 days if cramming Mathematical equations, I was finally ready to defend our project.

When it was time for Group 5, Mr Okon looked at me and Said “Victor Come and Teach us on behalf of your group” I was not scared, because I was prepared.

I taught probability, with ease, when I was done Mr Okon started a round of applause and the whole class jammed their hands in chorus. I was happy and so were my group members, we actually had the highest. Back there at my seat, Pearl was grinning widely and said “Mr Eisten I never knew you were good at maths oo” I smiled and told her that she ought to have asked me where I learnt how to cram very well. She let out a loud but soft laughter that distracted the class and almost got us punished.

The next friday was our school dinner and preparations had begun in ernest, half the guys In my class had dates…

*MONDAY*
I was awaken by the sound of rain drops, on the roof, on monday morning, I slept until it was 7, thinking it was 6:30, my time was 30 minutes late, I knew immediately that it was Bisi my sister, that was responsible for this act. I knew it was because I hid her so called designer wedges.

I rushed to the bathroom, I cleaned my mouth, took my bath all in a hurry. I got dressed and by 7:40 I was through with my Cornflakes, I looked at the plate when I heard my stomach make that rumble sound and said to myself “these days they are never enough”, Mum Worked with the Ministry of Health and so, she was on a one day leave (weird right?, I know) she dropped me at school. I ran all over the almost mud floor till I got to school. The gates were thrown wide open because of the rain.

That day Pearl was late I did not know why. Emeka was in my seat, as soon as I entered the seat he looked at me and said “were my babe?” Which babe I asked, he then told me it was Pearl and how they started dating one week ago, I felt bad, not because Emeka was dating her but because she did not tell me about it. I thought we were very close. She was absent from school that day perhaps it was because of the rain.

School was definitely going to be boring without her, so I decided to pay my former seat mate a visit. School was fun but not as much fun as it was when Pearl was around.

That day I summoned quite enough courage to ask Vanessa why she wasn’t talking to me.

As I got closer to her seat, I could see from her facial expression that she was shocked. I said “hi” she replied me with something even colder “hey”

I wanted to start a conversation but was discouraged. Sade came closer to were I was and said “so you finally decided to speak to her because Pearl is not in school” Vanessa nodded in affirmative. I looked at both of them, at that point I was going to say everything on my mind ranging from the text to why she asked to be changed from the group because I was there. When I asked her those question she became very silent and as my friend segun will say; very humble. Sade after seeing the look of things left us alone, to talk.

Vanessa apologised for “nothing in particular” according to her. I was still angry with her even though I was grinning so wide. We were cool I guess. Unlike Vanessa Pearl was much more fun to be with. I soon realised that I was angry with so many people for so many reasons.

About the group stuff why did you ask Mr Okon to change you or me? I asked, Vanessa looked at me, took a deep breath and said “I only asked him to make the number of girls and boys even but instead he made it worse” I did not believe it because I saw it with my own eyes.

That day after all school activities, I left school in a hurry so as to avoid the rain that was now forming something else up there. When I got home I tried Pearl’s number but found out that it was switched off.

The remaining Days of the week were a bliss.
(Tuesday -thursday)
It was friday date for the school dinner.
