when I fell in love - Season 1 - Episode 26

My phone alarm woke me up and i got
myself prepared to go to my exam center,it
was already 8am and my exam starts by
9am.I went to check on joy who was still
sleeping,i tapped her on her shoulder to
wake up.

Joy: (yawned) i had a bad dream that i had
HIV

Donald: it’s truly a bad dream,i just came to
tell you that i’m going for my exams and I'll
be so happy if you also write the exam.

Joy: (smiled) i’ll be ready in 10minutes

Donald: please hurry up,i’m waiting for you.
I left her room to mum’s,i greeted her
goodmorning.

Mum: you are off to your centre?

Donald: yes mum

Mum: What about joy?

Donald: She is getting ready

Mum: God be praised,i wish you both

success in your exams.

Donald: Amen,thanks mum
I left her room and i saw joy was already
ready,we both left the house.I decided to go
over to silvia’s house to know if she was
read,luck for me,i saw her coming out of
her house.

Donald: Good morning Silvia

Silvia: (sounding cold) Hi

Joy: hello Silvia

Silvia: (looked at donald) can we work
faster?

I knew silvia was not comfortable seeing joy
with me but i didn’t bother.Finally we
arrived at the center,we got settled in and
after an hour,the exam started.It was more
simple than i thought,i was done with my
exams.Joy was still battling with hers,i
decided to wait for both her and silvia.Soon
they were both through.

Donald: how was it!

Joy: though,i did my best.

Silvia: it was so simple

Joy: hmmmm

Donald: (moved close to joy and put my
hand on her shoulder) everything would
come out fine.

Silvia: (coughs) i’ll see you later donald,i
want to see my friend

Donald: Alright bye
Joy and i arrived home,we saw her parents
waiting for her.

Joys mum: (ran and hugged her) my child!
thank God you are alive

Joy: (pushed her away and hissed) aunt
what are they doing here?

Mum: they are here to go with you to the
hospital

Joys dad: you never told us you had a
boyfriend!

Joy: And who are you to tell me what to do
with my life?

Mum: Don’t be rude joy! they are your
parents
Joy: (laughs) they’ve lost that right since
they abandoned me.

Joys Dad: Jesus have mercy on my child.

Mum: let’s go to the hospital

Joy: if anything happens to me,i blame you
two people that call themselves my parent.
We all went to the hospital and joy waa
tested,we were asked to come back for the
result the next day,Everyone waa anxious
and counting down till the next day.
Joy locked herself in her room through
out.Her parents came back from the
hospital with the result and with the look on
their face,no one needs to say joy is
positive.I went to mum who was busy
crying.

Donald: Don’t tell me she is positive

Mum: she…she is donald! she is!

Donald: (tears started flowing down) that
means she would die soon.

Joys mum: (in tears) how could we be so
careless about our own daughter

Joys Dad: we were busy mending other
peoples family and we couldn’t mend ours.

Mum: But how would ww break the news to
her?

We saw joy staring at us as tears ran down
her eyes.

Joy: (looked at her parents and screamed) i
hate you! i swear i hate you!

Donald: (went over to joy to calm her down
as tears came down my eyes) calm down
joy

Joy: (Stared at me in the eyes) Donald tell
me i’m dreaming

Donald: (Swallowed my spit as tears kept
falling from my eyes) Joy it isn’t a dream.

Joy: (laughs) okay
She screamed at ran out of the house,we
ran after her.I ran as fast as i could Joy!
Joy! Joy! i kept yelling but she kept
running.In a twinkle of an eye,joy was
crushed by a moving trailer carrying Dangote
cement.Joys mum collapses on the floor
and started crying profusely.Her husband
tried to console her.I couldn’t believe my
eyes,soon after people garthered to watch
the horror when an ambulance arrived to
pick up her dead body.I couldn’t help but
cry my eyes out.”Joy can’t die like that” i
kept telling myself as i cried.Mum couldn’t
hold back her tears as she tried to console
me.I can’t imagine life without joy,i thought
i hated her but now i know i really love her
despite all,”Joy don’t leave me” i cried out.I
couldn’t sleep at night,i was expecting joy
to walk through the door once more,i didn’t
even had the chance to tell her i love
her.When i fell in love,i never realised it
until her death.Silvia couldn’t believe her
ears when she heard that joy was dead.I
kept flipping through the pictures joy and i
took together as i cried,i read the last text
message she sent me.I couldnt forger her
last words,it kept ringing in my ears “Donald
tell me i’m dreaming” i felt guilty for pushing
her away.Though she hurt me but i should
have understood her better and not judge
her.Joy i am so sorry,i cant imagine life
without joy.

Bisi couldn’t help but cry even though they
were rivals…
