The question she asked made me feel flummoxed. I looked down at my left hand that was locked in David’s right and tried pulling out but David tightened his fingers around mine.

“What were you guys doing?” She sputtered, goggling at us.

“Ermmm…” David stammered and scratched his head.

“Ermmm, what?” she asked, almost shouting. By then she had switched off the light on her phone and thanks goodness that our street always looked deserted at night and the few people passing at that time choosed to mind their own business.

“I tried…” David started to say but his sister interrupted him.

“Kissing her right?”
“Yes!” David mumbled and looked down.

“How old are you Davd?”
David looked up quickly in surprise.

From the way he stared, I knew he never expected such question. “I’m fourteen.”

“Good, let’s drop Becky off and we’ll talk about this later,” she concluded and walked past us but stop at a little distance and turned back to face to. “I said let’s go!” she ordered and continued walking. I looked at David and he nodded, then we sauntered towards her.

We didn’t talk much along the way and soon we were infront of our gate.

“Wish her goodnight, without lips locking,” Kate said to David and smiled. Then moved away from us and stood at a little distance, where she could see us clearly.

“I’m sorry,” I apologised.

“There’s nothing to be sorry about,” David smiled and hugged me. “Goodnight.” he said and released me.

“Goodnight,” I nodded, push open the gate and entered.

I closed and bolted the gate behind me, then tiptoed towards the front door.

“Stop!” a voice ordered from behind making me stand fixed to the spot. Goose pimples appeared all over my body and I began to shiver.

“Oh God! Help me,” I prayed silently as the person began walking towards me. Gosh! I was really scared. Soon the person was infront of me.

“Becky!” mom called and pulled me into her arms. “Why do you look so scared? You stayed long and I was about coming to pick you up,” she said looking very worried as she smoothened my hair.

“I’m sorry mom,” I apologised. “I completely lost track of time.”
She smiled, “It’s alright love, let’s go in, remember you’ve not yet eaten anything.” Hmm, that was when I remembered that I hadn’t eaten anything since I returned from school due to Eric’s foolishness and talking about Eric, thoughts of him had been totally wiped off my mind and guess who and what was on my mind? “David and the kiss(smiles).” Thinking of that made me smile and forget where I was.

“Becky,” Mom prodded. “What’s making you smile like that?”

“Nothing mom,” I smiled again. “David’s father wants to see you,” I informed.

“Okay but I doubt if that’s what’s making you smile?” she said.

“Mom! I’ll tell you later,” I smiled again while she shrugged in resignation and led me to the house…

I ate dinner, watched movie on TV with Ken and my cousins before retiring to bed to rest my head after a bad afternoon that ended with a good and embarrassing evening…

I woke up the next day feeling very happy. The reason why I was happy was something I couldn’t figure out, all what I knew was that, I was very happy. I did the normal morning stuffs like brushing and rest and soon was dressed up for school. That very tuesday, I took my time to really look at myself in the mirror, just to make sure I looked- you know?(smiles)…

As I sat down to have breakfast with my family, I couldn’t stop thinking of the previous night. I prayed and wished for such opportunity to come my way again.

“Becky!” Nath called. “You’ve been smiling to yourself, any better?” he asked.

By then I was half through my breakfast of boiled yam and sauce. I stood up, pushed my chair backwards and drank a little water before answering Nath. “It’s nothing, I’m just happy today.”

“Okay but don’t let anything cut short your happiness today o,” Ken added.

“Sure,” I kept smiling as I hugged them briefly. Mom stood up and walked me to the door, then handed me my usual five hundred naira but surprisingly gave Eric one thousand.

I was surprised but what can I say. Might be Eric never told them the truth.

“Be careful and stay out of trouble,” Mom said as she opened the front door for Eric and I.

“Sure, bye,” we both said in unison and walked towards the gate…

OUTSIDE THE GATE

I decided to go call David, so we go together but Eric stopped me and held my hands.

“Where do you think you’re going to?” he asked.

“And how’s that your business, mr s-x maniac?” I fired at him angrily…
