It was quite unusual and exotic, if Kate was to be truthful. She almost couldn’t believe that it was on her hand.

Punishment, Kira insisted. She had been marked by the the Fire God as a warning not to question her ever again. The Fire God was angry at Kate, so angry that he killed these villagers to appeased his anger. And to get back at her.

But…that couldn’t be true. Their Fire God wasn’t like that. He wouldn’t kill innocent lives to make a point, surely. Not her Fire God.

Some members of the Fire Council agreed with Kira, while others argued that she had not been brunt in medical sense.

She had been marked, but not injured. It was a sign of bravery, a sign that she risked her life to save another. A true sign of a Fire Priestess.

Turmoil within the Council chamber followed when one member, Kate didn’t know who, suggested that, perhaps, the Fire God was angry at Kira as she seemed to be supporting a rather suspicious injury as well. Kira, of course, denied such a thing and made a big show about promising retribution against the one who dared to say such a thing.

Kate didn’t pay much attention after that and a short while afterwards, she excused herself, saying that she wasn’t feeling well. And she wasn’t. Returning to the Fire Temple. Kate could feel the heaviness in the air. A time of mourning had fallen over the Island.

However, there was also sense of fear in the air. The people of this Island couldn’t help but wonder; was their Fire God angry with them?

Kate couldn’t help but wonder that herself. Was it her fault that this happened? Was it because she was being selfish? Or was it really because of Kira?
Kate was slightly statled when she felt a pair of arms encircled her waist from behind, she being pulled back into a taut chest. She soon calmed down when she realised that Loki was the one holding her and she found comfort in that.

“Hey, how are you feeling?” Loki asked her as he pressed a soft kiss to her temple. “You’ve had a rough couple of days, huh?”

“I’m ok”, Kate replied as she rested her hands on top of Loki’s that were pressed against her stomach.

“What could the Council possibly want with you?” Loki asked with a sense of annoyance in his voice. “You’re still healing”.

“They wished to discuss what happened”, Kate answered. “I could tell them so much. They also wanted to see this”. She indicated to her hand that was roughly bandaged.

“Your injury?” Loki questioned, and although Kate couldn’t exactly see, she was certain that he was frowning. “Why?”

Kate lifted her hands from Loki’s and slowly undid the bindings. “The Fire appeared to have burnt me”, she explained as she showed loki the marking. “It’s usually indicated that the Fire God isn’t pleased”.

Loki tensed subtly, his grip around Kate tightening a fraction. “Do they believe that the Fire God is responsible for what happened here today?” There was a mild tinge of disbelief and anger in his voice.

Kate sighed and nodded her head wearily. “They do”.

“What else happened?” Loki prodded gently, knowing that there was more that is bothering her.

“Kira insists that it is a sign that the Fire God is angry with me personally”. Kate said as she pressed herself back againist Loki, allowing the man to wrap her up in his arms. “And Elder Adar believes that it is a form of punishment for my defiance”.

“Oh please”, Loki out right snorted. “If the Fire God was angry with you, do you think you would have gotten out alive?” he reasoned.
