Fire God Of The Fire Island - Season 1 - Episode 44

☆☆
Dance of the Flame

A bed of glowing embers surrounded by dark Obsidian stones was in the middle of the charred ruins of the once thriving fishing village. Those who have perished were placed on the outside permeter of the ceremonious Fire God. Fire Priestess standing next to them, acting as carries and overseers.

A large crowd of mourners had gathered silently in the background, creating a solemn circle around the Priestess in anticipation of the ceremony. There were many tears. Children clinging to their parent’s legs, asking them questions, questions they couldn’t answer.

Kate found Loki easily, the blue-haired man standing with a few of the Fire Guards and Fire Priests. Loki’s face was solemn, no carefree smile was seen. It didn’t suit him. But what was there to smile about at the moment?

Sliently, Kate made her way over to him, nodding her head slightly in acknowledgement to her fellow Priestess and Fire Guards before taking her place at Loki’s side, the taller man’s hand seeking hers out and gently holding her. Kate was appreciative of the touch.

A hush fell over the crowd when Laura appeared, Levi escorting her. In a robe of white, red and gold, Laura looked as majestic as ever. In her hands where two ceremony fans. This ritual was a ceremony unlike anything else.

She stood before the ember bed and took several deep breathes, preparing herself for the ritual. When she opened her eyes, everyone knew that the ceremony was to start.

“Hush”, Laura’s slow and gentle voice echoed through the evening sky. “Still the burning winds, the clouds dancing against a crimson sky”.

She stepped upon the glowing embers, her bare feet gliding over the flickering flames. “Listen to the whispering of the fire within our hearts as the fiery passion of our soul, burning for evermore”.

Kate felt a lump of emotion form in her throat, but she did her best to swallow it down. Laura was calm and collected, yet her voice was gentle and loving. And as she lifted the ceremonious fans, her hair dancing around her kind face, she performed the specialised Fire Dance that would soothe the souls of those who had passed, sending them to a place of peace, cleansing their souls, allowing them to move on without regret. She was freeing them from this earthy plain
“For a fleeting moment, find flight on golden wings, that leads to a place of eternal Paradise, as bright as the sun’s warming rays”. Unconcerned for the burning flames, Laura kicked up some of the embers, sending them spiralling to the heaven’s above. Exactly eleven sparks floated upon the fiery winds. “May you feel the caress of the fire as you ascend to the heaven’s above, following the rivers of Lava, leading you homeward, into the warm embrace of angels”.

As Laura slowly moved along the fiery bed, Fire Priestess, Priest and Guards carefully, gently lifted those who had died and placed them upon the embers, each of them uttering a silent prayer as they did so, wishing them peace.

The sheets and cloth that had been so lovely wrapped around them caught alight.

Their earth bound bodies will now join them within their spiritual paradise.

It was their final farewell and some of the victims loved ones broke down as they watched. Kate found herself swallowing back her feelings again.

“Sleep now, for your flame burns brightly with our own”, Laura said as she slowly waved her fan over each of the victims, the flames burening brightly, “Sleep now, there is nothing to fear, you are at peace”.

As she cleansed each body Kate uttered a silent prayer of her own and wasn’t all that surprised when she heard Loki do the same.

“Sleep now”. Laura’s voice grew softer and softer.

“Sleep now”. Her voice now a whisper

“Sleep now”. The ritual was over now.

Kate could only watch in silence as Laura stepped from the bed of embers as gracefully as she had appeared, straight over to Levi. And though she did not push herself into Levi’s arms, something Kate would not have blame her if she did, she allowed the Fire Guard to wrap an arm around her shoulders and escort her away.

There were some days where Laura simply left everyone beyond breathless.

“She’s quite devoted to the people of this Island”, Loki said as he watched until Laura was gone from his sight before turning those eyes to Kate. “As much as you are”.

“Yeah she is”,
Kate agreed as she turned to Look at Loki as well. “Laura loves this Island and she loves the people who reside here. That is why she is so kind to everyone”.

“I wonder what really happened here”,
Loki muttered. “Those flames…”
“Hmm?”
“Oh, it’s nothing, just musing out loud”,
Loki said quickly. “Let’s go for a walk. “I think it would be the best that the villagers have time to mourn together”.

“Yes”,
Kate said as she sunk readily at Loki’s side. “You’re right”.
***

The sun had well and truly set, and darkness had swept over the Island, but Kate wasn’t ready to head back to the Fire Temple just yet. She was content to spend time with Loki.
