Ayorkor was not happy with the way her friend stared at Gideon but she kept her cool. When she realized it was severe, she told Naa Atswei to follow her to the bedroom so they could talk. Gideon stared at them as they ascended the stairs. She felt some kind of thickness in the air but didn’t really understand what was going on


“so you have gone this low right? What is the driver doing in your house this early morning. I thought your driver doesn’t work on weekends or he has started doing night duty on your body” Naa Atswei said sarcastically when they sat at the edge of the bed.

Ayorkor’s face went pale. She felt her friend was too harsh on her. Judging her directly was not so cool. She tried all she could to keep her emotions in check before talking.


“Naa Atswei, must you jump into conclusions? Why do you think i called you here. You girls are my friends and you know without doubt that I can’t do anything without seeking for your advice. I am somehow disappointed in you for judging me without asking for explanations” Ayorkor disclosed her displeasure

“well, forgive me for jumping into conclusions. Can you please explain to me what is going on here?” Naa Atswei said with a serious face.

Ayorkor took her time to explain to her friend that she wasn’t really in love when she was so glued to love and profession.


“Naa Atswei, you need to listen to me attentively. When I was seriously looking for a guy with what we termed as good profession, I wasn’t really in love. Oh yeah! To tell you what, this driver is the only person that when I see, I care less about my status and profession. I am in love with him. I mean very much in love with him. I don’t care even if he is a shoe maker or a carpenter. So far as I am happy with him, I am cool. Please understand me”[b] She explained

Naa Atswei stared at Ayorkor like a piece of wood. She just didn’t believe her ears. She just couldn’t figure out what Ayorkor had seen in that young man that she was trying to go so low. A common driver? That won’t happen. It won’t happen to their only friend. They had maintain their status from senior high School through to the university. Why would Ayorkor add dirt to their status. Their hard earned and maintained status. Ayorkor just stared at her face. She didn’t know what was going on in her mind.

[b]“you know what Ayorkor, you just made me speechless. So tell me. Can you tell this madness to Dede and Naa Obieley?” Naa Atswei inquired

“why not! I know they will understand me” she replied


“oh my gosh, is that how bad things have gotten to? Have you forgotten your are a doctor. A professional paediatrician? What will people say about you if you marry a common driver? I guess this will be the headline for the news papers ‘a professional paediatrician marries a useless driver’ oh yeah. That will be the headline. I just can’t get it. What you are telling me doesn’t hold water. You better come again” Naa Atswei tried to explain to her who she was.

“Naa Atswei, you should be happy that I have found a man that makes me happy and not a man with whatever profession that will break my heart. It’s my happiness we are talking about here. My mind is made up. I won’t get married to the profession. It’s the individual that I will get married to. We have lived in our folly for long. Looking down on others just because we think their profession is of low key. Grow up girl. Just grow up. School is supposed to make you wise and not the other way round” Ayorkor tried to make her see sense.


Perplexity and shock was written all over the face of Naa Atswei. She felt something was terribly wrong with her friend. She either needed prayers or needed to see a psychiatrist. She told Ayorkor to think carefully about her decision. She immediately left the house. Ayorkor joined her guests in the hall. Gideon asked her what was wrong with her friend because he saw anger written all over her face when she was leaving. Ayorkor assured him all was well.

Ayorkor took the opportunity to find out from the young man the daughter her spoke about the other time. Gideon’s mood changed. Ayorkor felt he was sad. The young man disclosed his story to her.



“I got married to this beautiful lady I dated for sometime four years ago. A year down the line, she gave birth to a bouncy and adorable baby girl. I loved that child so much because she was my first blood. When she was two years, my wife travelled to visit her mother in her hometown and they never returned” he disclosed. A tear dropped from his eyes.


“how do you mean by they never returned” Ayorkor asked curiously and confused
“they had an accident and lost their lives” he said


“Oh!” Ayorkor exclaimed in shock. The story shook her spine. Though she felt sorry for him, she felt happy also because if that had not happened, they wouldn’t have met. She asked him if he had tried dating after losing his wife. The driver explain that he decided not to date until he met someone. He explained that he was madly in love with the lady but was sure he would be rejected by her. Ayorkor felt jealous instantly. She felt the young man was in love with another lady whiles she was busily fantasying over him. She advised him to disclosed his feelings to the lady. Who knows, she might accept him.

Gideon gathered courage instantly and turned to face Ayorkor. He disclosed to her that she was the lady. Gideon’s face went pale because Ayorkor’s mood changed. He felt he was going to be kicked out of the house. On the other hand, Ayorkor couldn’t believe her ears. It was a dream come true. She asked Gideon to take them out because it looked like they were spending the day in the house. Gideon was left in suspense. He was very confused in his mind. He shyly asked Ayorkor where to take them to and Ayorkor told him to take them to any place of his choice.

Gideon prepared the car and took them to a cool place for them to have fun. The actions of Ayorkor told Gideon she was also in love with him which brought back his vim. That weekend was the best weekend in the life of Ayorkor. She had real fun with Gideon and Amerley. Amerley was taken home on Sunday evening by Ayorkor and Gideon. They promised her there was more fun ahead. Amerley felt very delighted.

Ayorkor’s friends rejected her because they felt she had gone so low. She told them that it was her happiness that was important and if that was a problem to them, they should go. Ayorkor kept his relationship with Gideon a secret to doctor Anderson.

Steve returned from his hometown and took over his job. He showed appreciation to Gideon for being a wonderful friend. Gideon disclosed to Steve that he was going out with Ayorkor.


Steve was shocked to the bone which surprised Gideon. Steve tried to find out what he did to the lady to fall for him. He explained to him, the life style of Ayorkor. Gideon explained to Steve that his boss was not really in love by then. They both giggled.

Epilogue;
Ayorkor thought hard what to do for Gideon for him to be set up. She remembered something which made her smiled. She picked her phone and dialed Amerley’s Father’s number. After exchanging greetings, she disclosed that she was interested in the transport business and would therefore accept the buses. Amerley’s father disclosed to her how lucky she was. He had wanted to auctioned the buses because he felt they had become a burden to him. Ayorkor spoke to Gideon about the transport business and the young man gladly accepted to be in charge of the business.
Six months after the transport business set off, Ayorkor and Gideon fixed their wedding date. Doctor Anderson thanked God when he received the invitation. He realised Ayorkor had changed her mentality about love and profession

On the wedding day, Steve’s wife tapped him on the shoulder and said


“I told you that you will play a major role in your boss’s life. Hope you understand now”

“oh Betty, you are such a sweetness” Steve said to her and they giggled. Steve understood his wife very well
Ayorkor got the shock of her life when she spotted her friends at the wedding. At the reception , they got closed to her and disclosed to her how sorry they were for rejecting her. They told her how happy they were for her. Amerley’s father sponsored everything
Two years down the line, Ayorkor and Gideon gave birth to triplets. Three beautiful girls and named them Dede, Naa Atswei and Naa Obieley. The three friends of Ayorkor took the kids as their god children. They lived happily ever after. Love has got nothing to do with profession
