The Ogun State government has earlier announced that the state has over 300 beds in its isolation centres in OOUTH, Sagamu, Ikenne, Iberekodo and Okemosan, Abeokuta.

As of Thursday, Ogun has over 200 active cases of COVID-19.

However, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, confirmed that only seven COVID-19 patients are at the state isolation centers.

According to her, most of the COVID-19 patients in Ogun are receiving treatment in their various homes.

While addressing newsmen on Thursday, Coker informed that the seven patients at the isolation centres are those who require oxygen or ventilation.

She said treating COVID-19 patients at home was in accordance with the directive of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The Commissioner maintained that 97 per cent of COVID-19 cases in the state are asymptomatic or those with mild symptoms, saying the isolation centres are not short of bed spaces.

“We are not short of bed spaces. 97% of our cases are asymptomatic and mild diseases.

NCDC directives now is home management for people with mild disease and asymptomatic disease.

So we have about 300 people in the community that are being managed as home and we are following them up.

“In the isolation centres right now, we have only seven patients. These are patients requiring oxygen or requiring ventilation.

If you don’t require oxygen or you are asymptomatic, you could be managed at home, and we use that opportunity to actually educate their family members on how to protect themselves and not getting infected,” she said.
