The initial budget of N178.366b was reviewed downwards to N131.847b following the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic still ravaging the world. While signing the budget into law in Abakaliki virtually, he stressed that the state would focus more on agriculture to recover from the pandemic.

He said he was not ready to waste the state resources as he had done a lot of human empowerment and capital projects in the state. He noted that Ebonyi schools would remain closed until their premises were cleared of bushes and all other necessary measures put in place for effective teaching and learning.

“Nobody should think that this administration will one day assemble whatever we get in Abuja and begin to share it. I will not waste Ebonyi State resources. Ebonyi is a construction site, because we have done a lot of empowerment and projects.

“It should be made clear that Ebonyi schools will not open now. If every state is opening their schools, Ebonyi will not follow them.”

We have started the process to see how we can reopen and the process is to use the communities to clear the primary and secondary schools and then send medical teams to do sample testing of the teachers.

“Our medical teams will educate the teachers about COVID-19 protocols. We will look at the syllabuses of our primary and secondary schools and the teachers will review them,” he said.
