DJ Cuppy finds a dozen way to bounce back from backlash - "Original Copy" Album Review

After being heavily criticized by many for dishing out 'wack' songs, DJ Cuppy returns with a debut album tagged "Original Copy" to address the negative comments.

Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola is a Nigerian disc jockey, songwriter and performing artist professionally known as DJ Cuppy or Cuppy. The singer penned down a distribution deal with Platoon records prior to the release of her debut album. DJ Cuppy was heavily criticized in 2017 when she dished out a single titled "Green Light" with Tekno. She was also advised to quit music and focus on something else following her chorus on "Gelato" featuring Zlatan Ibile which was premiered in 2019.

In her debut album "Original Copy", DJ Cuppy took the hate thrown at her over time to dish out an elite product. She dished out a 12-track debut album to dismiss the negative vibes. The album is a product of hard work, determination and shows her willingness and readiness to grow.

DJ Cuppy employed the services of Wyclef Jean, Efya, Stone Bwoy, Teni, Sir Shina Peters, Seyi Shay, Ycee, Nonso Amadi, Rema, Rayvanny, Ms Banks, Killertunes, and others to create this masterpiece.

• "Epe" has DJ Cuppy admitting he just wants to have her soul in every song of hers. The funky track featuring Efya is lit and needs no further hype.

• "Jollof on the Jet" produced by Killertunes is the first single released off this album. The afrobeat vibe features Mavin records act, Rema and Tanzanian singer Rayvanny. DJ Cuppy held the chorus while Rema gave it the extra vocal flavour it needs.

• An afro-fusion tune with DJ Cuppy and Wyclef Jean tagged "Wale" could be all DJ Cuppy needed to show she could take a verse and a chorus and still not sound 'wack'. This is an exceptional sound from the young Nigerian disc jockey.

• DJ Cuppy links up with YBNL star, Fireboy DML to create "Feel Good" a howling sound that is suiting and groovy.

• "Cold Heart Killer" by DJ Cuppy featuring Darkoo is one of my favourites. It's slow, mellowed and babbling. The south london based Nigerian singer and songwriter, Darkoo perfectly laid her sexual voice to make this vibe a blast.

• DJ Cuppy manned up to take "Original Copy (Interlude)" all by herself. The trap sound will get you appreciating Cuppy's growth.

• "Karma" by DJ Cuppy and Stonebwoy is a lilting track that needs no introduction. It is the second single off this album and already has quite a number of streams to back up its sonorous sound.

• Finally Teni and DJ Cuppy gives us a "Litty Lit" tune to enjoy. The Pheelz produced vibe is funky and dulcet.

• On a highlife vibe tagged "54" with awesome chords, DJ Cuppy rides back to Africa with Sina Peters and Julian Marley. DJ Cuppy admits there is no place in the world like Africa as she tries to lure her friends to the rich continent.

• In "Guilty Pleasure", DJ Cuppy and Nonso Amadi creates a romantic vibe on a well-crafted melodic instrumental. Nonso Amadi's vocals are magical.

• Ycee and Ms Banks collaboration with DJ Cuppy gives us nothing but a sick and explosively howling sound "P.O.Y" to vibe to.

• "Labalaba" features Nigerian songtress Seyi Shay. It is somehow skeletal as I couldn't get hold of the musical direction. The instrumental seems to have some vacuum that needs to be filled but overall it is a classic tune.
