Every Song In Netflix’s Project Power

Project Power celebrates the spirit of New Orleans, however songs on the soundtrack don't quite capture the city's musical flavor. Still, the collective music works to the film's advantage, as some featured songs link to specific characters while others establish the gritty atmosphere of various settings. Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, Project Power released in August 2020 on Netflix.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Frank Shaver in Project Power. The police officer investigates an influx of drug-related 911 calls, but also consumes a mysterious drug called power that's not officially recognized by the government. Shaver receives his supply from high school student Robin (Dominique Fishback), who does her best to get by and aspires to be a rapper. Jamie Foxx co-stars as Art, a mysterious man who seemingly knows the truth about a program that's designed to de-humanize U.S. citizens. Overall, the characters work together in a roundabout way as the bigger picture becomes more clear. The score of Project Power was composed by Joseph Trapanese.

Project Power was produced for approximately $85 million, and has received mostly positive reviews. The film effectively showcases New Orleans as a city, and the music spotlights a variety of lesser-known recording artists while paying homage to the late Nipsey Hussle. There's a meta effect, too, as one of the characters raps over a Nipsey Hussle beat early on, and laters delivers a lyrical takedown of her teacher (albeit in a dream sequence). Here's every featured song in Project Power on Netflix, featuring music supervision from Randall Poster (Tiger King, Divergent, The French Dispatch).

"Grinding All My Life" - Nipsey Hussle

"Gotta Lotta" - 2 Chainz feat. Lil Wayne

"Fireman Stage" (From Mega Man) - Capcom Sound Team

"The Maskings of You" - Curtis Mayfield

"A Slight Case of the Shakes" - Brick Fleagle

"Drowning" - Mick Jenkins

"Maniac" - Goldlink

"Strode Rode" - Sonny Rollins

"Ginza Samba" - Stan Getz & Cal Tjader

"High Rises" - Chika

"My Power" - Chika and Dominique Fish

Project Power begins with Robin rhyming over the beat of "Grinding All My Life," a tone-setter for both the storyline and various character arcs. After Frank saves Robin during a street altercation and fends off local baddies, they drive a motorcycle to the sounds of "Gotta Lotta."

When Project Power becomes more intense, "The Maskings of You" offers a change of pace as Robin plays the song for her mother. The track then continues over a brief sequence of Art treating his wounds. When the worlds of Robin and Art collide, "Drowning" kicks in to complement "The Alligator" subplot. Meanwhile, Frank cruises the city and takes the Superdome exit.

"High Rises" scores a poignant final act moment between two characters, which cites the film's open while setting up a smaller narrative reveal during the credits sequence. Project Power on Netflix officially ends with "My Power."
