Black Adam Will Start Filming In Early 2021

Dwayne Johnson is now scheduled to begin filming Black Adam in early 2021. Fans have waited years to see Johnson play the powerful DC anti-hero on the big screen, but it hasn't been until recently that the plan for his introduction was solidified. Johnson will make his first appearance as Black Adam in a solo film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Black Adam will do much more than just introduce the lead character to the DC Extended Universe though, as the Justice Society of America will also be included.

There is plenty of excitement within the fan community for Black Adam, which has made the extended wait for the movie seem even longer. WB and DC gave the film a December 2021 release date late last year and had plans for production to be underway by this point, but that was before the coronavirus pandemic shut down Hollywood for months. It is still having an impact on productions and actors, as even Johnson confirmed he tested positive for COVID-19. With these delays, Black Adam's new filming schedule has been confirmed.

Hiram Garcia, who is a producer on Black Adam, recently spoke to Variety about the busy upcoming schedule for Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions company. The magazine asked when Black Adam is slated to begin filming and Garcia confirmed that it wouldn't start until next year. Garcia specifically mentioned that production will begin in the first quarter of 2021, which would be anytime between January and March.

Even though some high profile film and TV productions have restarted already, the reason for Black Adam waiting until next year is tied to Johnson's busy schedule. He is one of the most in-demand talents in Hollywood and always a full plate of projects in various stages of development or production. Right now, his Netflix action film Red Notice, which co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, is what he has to finish first. The film had to stop production earlier this year, and Garcia confirmed filming resumes next week. This was expected following Gadot's social media post about her latest round of COVID-19 testing.

It is good to know that there is a plan in place for Black Adam to begin filming, but it's still too early to tell if this will stick. Future spikes of positive COVID-19 cases could shut down Hollywood again, or Black Adam specifically could get delayed if those involved test positive. Even if filming does begin in early 2021, fans should prepare for the film's release date to be delayed. The current production schedule gives Black Adam less than a year to begin and complete all phases of production. At this point, the film is nearly all but guaranteed to get delayed until sometime in 2022.
