Rumored Ms. Marvel Frontrunner Responds To MCU Casting Talk

Marvel's rumored frontrunner for the role of Ms. Marvel, Geraldine Viswanathan, responds to that casting conversation. Fans were thrilled to hear Kamala Khan, Marvel's first Muslim character, would be making her way to the MCU in a new Disney+ series. Much like the other Disney+ shows, Ms. Marvel is expected to tie into the movies in a big way, with Kamala having a role in a few films. Production was expected to begin this summer, but the coronavirus pandemic has thrown a wrench into much of Marvel's future plans. However, Ms. Marvel currently remains scheduled for 2021.

The biggest question on fans' minds is: Who will be cast as Kamala? Marvel has remained remarkably tight-lipped about who they're considering for the role, leaving it up to fans to speculate about who they'll pick. Viswanathan, best known for her roles in Blockers and Bad Education, remains a popular choice among fans. As Marvel has yet to announce their own casting, this has led some to believe Viswanthan is definitely one of the studio's main contenders, especially because she's previously expressed interest in the role.

Screen Rant recently sat down with Viswanathan to talk about her new movie The Broken Hearts Gallery. It was hard to resist asking her about those Ms. Marvel rumors and fan castings, and while she was unable to definitively say if she's in conversation with those at Marvel, she did call the rumors "flattering" and expressed excitement about what's to come. Viswanathan's full comments are as follows:

Geraldine Viswanathan: Oh God, it’s so flattering. And she’s my favorite superhero by far, so it’s really cool. But I have low expectations; whatever will be will be. They’ll find the perfect Miss Marvel, and I’m really excited to see it.https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/08ba6b4749a59a35d48ce7617a387ed6.jpg

Viswanathan would make an excellent Kamala, as she's proven her chops through her various film and television appearances. Some fans have already placed her in their art for an imagined Young Avengers team, indicating they really enjoy the idea of Viswanathan playing Kamala. Of course, just because the fans want a particular performer cast in a role doesn't mean they will be, but Viswanathan currently seems like Marvel's best choice.

Provided Ms. Marvel still wants to make its 2021 release date, Marvel will have to announce a lead soon. The series could end up being delayed because of the ongoing pandemic, which has already postponed fellow Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. As Kamala is expected to play such a pivotal role in the MCU going forward, there's a lot of anticipation surrounding her casting, and hopefully Marvel will choose to share their pick sooner rather than later. If they're still looking, Viswanathan is definitely interested in the part, so perhaps Marvel should give her a call if they haven't already.
