Thiago Alcantara Set To Complete Liverpool Transfer

Liverpool are expected to complete the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich before the end of the transfer window, according to reports.

Spain star Thiago has been linked with a move to Anfield since the back end of last season. However, the Reds, as of yet, have not been prepared to pay Bayern’s £27million asking price for the player.

Manchester United and former club Barcelona have both also shown an interest in Thiago.

But Spanish outlet Sport claim Thiago is set to join Liverpool, though a deal may not happen until the final week of the window.

Sport say Liverpool still believe £27m is too much for Thiago, who turns 30 next April.

But Thiago wants to sign for Jurgen Klopp’s side, so a deal is expected to be completed

It has been less than a month since Thiago helped Bayern beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Lisbon.

Bayern start their Bundesliga campaign this Friday at home to Schalke. Arsenal legend Ian Wright claims Thiago is an essential addition to Klopp’s squad and says his arrival would be similar to that of goalkeeper Alisson and defender Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

Wright told Premier League Productions: “When you look at Liverpool in the midfield area, they need that player, just like they needed Alisson – it was blatantly obvious to see what was going on with the goalkeepers – and the centre-half because of what was happening with [Dejan] Lovren and the mistakes.

“They made those signings and they’ve been magnificent.

“They need that creative Thiago in there to help with the guys up front, that’s the next thing in their building blocks. Who’s going to do that job? Because they need something else.

“If he comes to the dressing room – like we were hearing about Messi might be going to City – if he comes to your dressing room, Thiago, you are absolutely over the moon.

“That is the kind of lift where people say ‘here go Liverpool again’, I’m telling you.”
