Big Mouth Star Maya Rudolph Wins An Emmy For Role On The Netflix Show

Maya Rudolph has reason to celebrate this weekend, as the actress has won an Emmy Award for her work on the Netflix animated hit Big Mouth. This almost felt like a foregone conclusion, since there's nothing funnier than the way Rudolph says the phrase "bubble bath" on the show. Still, the victory likely feels like validation for Rudolph, who had never before won an Emmy Award.

Rudolph serves as a versatile talent on Big Mouth, voicing a number of different characters. Her most prominent character is Connie the Hormone Monstress, who serves as Nick's hormone monster during the third season after guiding Jessi and Missy in previous seasons. She also voices Nick's mother, Diane, as well as various other characters who pop up during the series. The show has been nominated for a couple of Emmy Awards over the past couple of years, but they never managed to secure a win—until now.

As ET Canada relayed, Rudolph was announced as the winner of an Emmy Award on Thursday evening. She was nominated in the Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance category at the Creative Arts Emmys, specifically for her portrayal of Connie the Hormone Monstress in the episode "How to Have an Orgasm." Rudolph's victory came at the expense of the other nominees, including Hank Azaria and Nancy Cartwright (The Simpsons), Leslie Odom, Jr. (Central Park), Wanda Sykes (Crank Yankers), and Taika Waititi (The Mandalorian).https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/8418eef6133c2f1dccfdee9a885e64ca.jpg?The Television Academy wound up accepting the award on Rudolph's behalf, but it wasn't long before she took to social media to celebrate. On her Instagram Story (which was later reposted on a Twitter account), the actress celebrated her victory while requesting that the Television Academy give her more in the future. Additionally, the team behind Big Mouth took to social media to congratulate Rudolph on her award.

As hard as this is to fathom, Rudolph had never even been nominated for an Emmy Award prior to this year. If she has her wish, however, she could walk away with more awards by the end of the weekend. She is still up for two more awards: Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for portraying Judge Gen on The Good Place and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for portraying Sen. Kamala Harris on Saturday Night Live; those awards will be handed out on Saturday. With Big Mouth still having at least three seasons ahead, there's plenty of time to bring home more Emmy Awards down the road.
