Oloye Akin Alabi is a Nigerian politician, entrepreneur and author and philanthropist. He is the author of the business and marketing book, Small Business Big Money and also the founder of NairaBET.com, Nigeria’s first sports bookmaking company. Akin Alabi is the Mogaji of Ajiwogbo compound in Ibadan.

Early Life & Education

Akin Alabi was born 31st Of March 1977 in Ibadan, Ọyọ State, Nigeria, to the family of Chief and Chief (Mrs) Adediran Alabi

He attended his primary education at Command Children School, Ibadan, and secondary school education at Federal Government College Enugu.

Akin wrote jamb five times due to his inability to meet the cutoff marks in the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams, He proceeded to The Polytechnic, Ibadan where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Business Administration.

He holds a Master’s of Science (MSc) degree in Marketing from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. He holds a certificate in Intellectual Property Strategy from Harvard University, Boston, United States.

Career

Business Career

Akin Alabi started doing business after he graduated for school, In 2003 he Started writing and selling books, Later he started publishing a business. To add to his publishing enterprise, Akin launched World Soccer News, a weekly sports newspaper.

The list of business includes selling of chickens on the streets of Ibadan, importing and exporting of cash crops, business paper, a printing press, and a travel company.

He proceeded to lunch his own training and seminar company where he was teaching and consulting for other young people starting their own small opportunity newspaper titled INCOME businesses.

He Said

“I started as an information marketer; I was basically into writing and selling of books which I could say was like selling my knowledge and experience, both on online and terrestrial platforms. It pleases me to tell you that I still do that till now.”

How Nairabet Started

Few months after making some money from organizing seminars, he traveled to the United Kingdom to join his brother, who introduced him to sports betting. It was there that he studied the business model for placing bets on sports.

He later created an information product on how to place sports bets online from Nigeria. He made huge sales on the product and impressed by the enthusiasm shown, he birthed the idea of creating his own platform in Nigeria.

he success of the product prompted him to start his own online sports betting platform in Nigeria.

Nairabet started in 2009; Nairabet was the first company to come up with a fully functional website. it is an online website where you can actually deposit money, place bets, and make withdrawals.

Nairabet.com has its headquarters in Lagos with its nationwide operation regulated by the National Lottery Regulatory Commission.

Political Career

Akin Alabi is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He was once a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). On June 20, 2018, Akin Alabi announced that he will be stepping down as CEO of Nairabet to concentrate on his political campaign. Politics is not a do or die affair.

He won in March 2019 Election as a member of the House of Representatives and he is representing the Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency in Oyo State.

Philanthropy

He established a foundation named “Akin Alabi Foundation” its a non-governmental, not for profit outfit, The foundation aimed at improving the well being of the average Nigerian.

The foundation has successfully implemented projects like donating and building classrooms to primary schools, sinking of boreholes in areas where there is a scarcity of water, financial empowerment of widows, and free business and a career-building event called Youth Enterprise Conference, held annually at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Personal Life

Otunba Akin Alabi loves football and he is a staunch Fan of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) Ibadan and He is also a fan of Manchester United FC where he is a season ticket holder.

Akin Alabi is married to Oluwadamilare who is also an information marketer and they are blessed with children.

Akin Alabi is involved in the Nigerian entertainment industry. He is the founder of Nightlife.NG, an online portal that showcases and reports the nightlife industry in Nigeria.

Recognition

Akin Alabi is the Mogaji (Head) of Ajiwogbo compound in Ibadan. He was appointed by the Olubadan of Ibadan, HRH Saliu Adetunji (Ajeoguguluso1) on Monday December 5, 2016

Akin is the national vice president of the Information Marketers of Nigeria Association. He is also the President of the National Bookmakers Association.

Similarly, due to his philanthropic work, he was honored with the chieftain title as the Otunba Atunlushe of Igbole Ekiti by the Olugbole of Igbole Ekiti, HRM Oba Emmanuel O. Ajayi Adetiloye II.
