Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Renewed For Season 2, Trailer Confirms 2021 Release

The Netflix series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is officially renewed for season 2, with a trailer confirming a 2021 release date. The animated young adult series debuted on the streaming platform in September and has already made a big impression on audiences. It has most notably been praised for its surprisingly dark tone and survival-based story, though it has sparked discussions as to whether Camp Cretaceous is suitable for young children.

The first season of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous takes place during the events of the first Jurassic World movie, and makes references to some of the Jurassic World characters like Claire Dearing. The showrunners have confirmed that the events of Camp Cretaceous are considered completely canon in the Jurassic World franchise, and could change the perspective viewers have on the original movies. The events of season 2 will likely take place in between the first and second Jurassic World films, though DreamWorks Animation had not confirmed a second season until recently.

Now, according to Netflix and DreamWorks Animation, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous will be getting a second season in 2021. The announcement came with a new trailer for the season posted to the official Jurassic World YouTube channel. The teaser confirms the 2021 release date for the new episodes and gives a few sneak peeks at some of the dinosaurs viewers will see in the new season, including an iconic shot of Jurassic World’s Indominus Rex. You can view the full trailer below.

While Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 1 left viewers with a lot of unanswered questions, the new trailer doesn’t exactly answer any of them. We don’t see any new human characters introduced, so it’s unclear what sort of danger the kids will be facing. There’s also no shot of the character who was presumed dead at the end of season 1, even though fans have assumed that the writers will bring this character back. The trailer ends with a cryptic shot of a hand inside a small dinosaur footprint, which might be teasing the character’s return.

Though there’s no way to know exactly what season 2 has in store, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous will most likely be leaning into its survival story aesthetic. With all the adults out of the picture, we’re probably going to see more dinosaurs and more life-or-death situations on Isla Nublar. We’ll have to wait until Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous comes back next year to know for sure.
