Supernatural Season 15 Images: First Look At Recast Young Sam & Dean

The CW's Supernatural casts new faces to portray the younger versions of Sam and Dean Winchester and releases new images from the upcoming episode.

The long-running CW show Supernatural is currently airing season 15, which will be its last, and in the upcoming episode titled "Drag Me Away (From You)," which airs on October 22, fans can expect to see new faces portraying younger versions of the Winchester brothers. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) have been saving people and hunting monsters for their entire lives, and this won't be the first time in the series that we've seen past versions of the brothers. Young Dean has been played by a variety of actors across the seasons, and Young Sam has been played most often by Colin Ford.

News of the flashback episode was teased to fans in a trailer for the final season in late August, with only a brief shot of the younger brothers standing behind a chain-link fence. At the time of the trailer's release, fans speculated about the scenario in which they'd see the young Winchesters. As the show has been on the air for so long, the familiar faces of the young Winchesters have grown out of the parts—Colin Ford is now the same age Jared Padalecki was when the show first aired in 2006.

Now, as reported by TV Line, the role of Young Dean will now be portrayed by Paxton Singleton, known for being Young Steven in The Haunting of Hill House. Young Sam will be played by Canadian actor Christian Michael Cooper. The official episode synopsis tells us that the boys will be “asked to investigate the murder of a childhood friend, calling them back to a motel from their past and perplexing the brothers with a case they thought was solved a long time ago.” The CW also released several new images of the young actors from the upcoming episode, which you can see below.

A nostalgic flashback to the younger versions of the beloved brothers is something many fans are excited to see before the end of the show. Co-showrunner Andrew Dabb spoke to TV Line about the upcoming episode and its place within the final stretch of the Winchesters' story. Dabb said:

"It worked not only as a case right now, but also as something that informed the journey Sam and Dean have taken, where they started as kids, how they kind of came together and then how that has [led up] to the point that they are, emotionally, when the episode airs. So it ended up being a really good reflection of our guys now, telling a story about our guys then, which, to me, are always the best versions of those types of flashback stories.”

After a brief intermission in Supernatural's airing due to pandemic-related delays, the show resumed filming in August with some changes being made to the finale. Fans shouldn't worry, though, as it may just mean that we'll get a more intimate goodbye from the main cast. With the show drawing closer and closer to an end, fans are anxious to see what the final fate of the Winchester brothers will be. After 15 long seasons, sending the duo off with a proper goodbye is no small task. Supernatural's finale is expected to center around the familial aspects of the show (as opposed to a big, flashy monster fight scene) and give fans some much-needed closure for their favorite brothers.
