According to Statista, the average daily time in the internet in 2022 was 399.5 minutes. This is slightly lower than the average in 2021, which was 415.5 minutes. However, these averages vary significantly by region and country. For example, internet users in South Africa spent more than nine hours and 27 minutes online per day in 2022. It is ranked first among the regions worldwide. On the other hand, internet users in Japan spent less than four hours online per day in 2022. So, it is ranked last among the regions worldwide. 

The time spent online also differs by device. According to another Statista report, the average daily time spent on mobile devices in 2021 was 155 minutes. This is more than four times higher than on desktop devices, which was 37 minutes. The trend of increasing mobile internet usage is expected to continue in the future. In the future, more people access the internet through portable devices. 

So, what do people do online during their time? According to Oberlo, some of the most popular online activities include: 

• Social media 

Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and others are the leaders. They allow people to connect with their friends, family, celebrities, influencers, and strangers around the world. Here, people share their opinions, interests, hobbies, photos, videos, and other content. According to Oberlo, the average daily time spent on social media worldwide in 2020 was 145 minutes. 

• Streaming 

Streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, Apple Music, and others are on the 2nd place. They allow to watch movies, shows, documentaries, music videos, podcasts, and so on. There is a wide range of genres, languages, formats, and quality options. According to Oberlo, the average daily time spent on streaming worldwide in 2020 was 84 minutes. 

• Gaming 

This is the third great passion of mankind. Gaming platforms such as Steam, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch Online, Roblox, Fortnite, Minecraft, and others allow to play games. Online casino games are also very popular, where players get a completely different level of gaming experience. So, people can have fun with their friends or strangers around the world.  

There are a variety of genres, modes, levels of difficulty, and interactive features. It's enough to create immersive and engaging gaming experiences. According to Oberlo, the average daily time spent on gaming worldwide in 2020 was 48 minutes.
