Selena Gomez to Star in Linda Ronstadt Biopic

Only Murders In the Building star Selena Gomez is set to play iconic singer Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biographical movie.

Rolling Stone has reported that Gomez will play the role of Ronstadt, which she first teased in a recent Instagram Story that featured the singer’s memoir Simple Dreams. The outlet notes that both Gomez and Ronstadt are of Mexican descent, with the duo also both being esteemed singers.

The film is apparently in pre-production at the moment, with no release date window or story synopsis available. It will be co-produced by James Keach and Ronstadt’s manager John Boylan.

Ronstadt had a long career that spanned various different genres and eras, as well as Broadway roles in both The Pirates of Penzance and La bohème. She retired in 2012 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

Currently, Gomez stars in (and executive produces) Hulu‘s Only Murders in the Building with Steve Martin and Martin Short.
