Appeal Court Judgement: Sacked Plateau Lawmakers Arrive Assembly, Insist On Sitting

Sacked Peoples Democratic Party members in the Plateau State House of Assembly have stormed the assembly.

They arrived the premises of the Assembly Complex, demanding to be admitted into Tuesday’s sitting.

Recall that the Appeal Court had sacked the 16 members because the PDP in Plateau State lacked the structure to sponsor candidates in the last general elections.

Despite their sack, the lawmakers had vowed to join their colleagues during Tuesday’s resumed sitting of the Assembly.

Led by Ishaku Maren, the sacked lawmakers are claiming that the Supreme Court judgment, which validated the election of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, had also qualified them to remain members of the Assembly.

The lawmakers said they would resume as lawmakers on Tuesday when the House is expected to reconvene from its two-month recess.

However, eight members of the House of Assembly sat and after the sitting, the Speaker addressed the sacked lawmakers, urging them to maintain the status quo until all legal measures are explored.

Meanwhile, security operatives had cordoned off the Assembly Complex as a security measure to forestall the break down of law and order.
