A Family Affair Photos Preview Zac Efron’s Netflix Rom-Com, Release Date Announced

Netflix has shared the first photos from A Family Affair, a new romantic comedy starring Zac Efron.

A Family Affair releases on Netflix on June 28, 2024. Along with Efron (The Iron Claw), the film stars Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut, Big Little Lies), Joey King (The Kissing Booth, Bullet Train), Liza Koshy (Good Burger 2), and Kathy Bates (Misery, American Horror Story).

What is A Family Affair about?

“A surprising romance kicks off comic consequences for a young woman, her mother and her movie star boss as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity,” the logline for the movie reads.

A Family Affair is directed by Richard LaGravenese, who previously helmed 1998’s Living Out Loud, 2003’s A Decade Under the Influence, 2007’s Freedom Writers, 2007’s P.S. I Love You, 2013’s Beautiful Creatures, and 2014’s The Last Five Years.

The script was written by Carrie Solomon, who executive-produced the movie alongside Michelle Morrissey and Alyssa Altman. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum serve as producers.

“The interplay between Joey and Zac’s characters as an assistant and star is so much fun,” LaGravenese told PEOPLE Magazine about the movie. “I also love the mother-daughter role reversal where the daughter becomes the disapproving, judgmental, suspicious parent and the mother is sneaking around her back having a love affair that makes her feel like she’s come back to life.”

Efron, who previously appeared in 2012’s The Paperboy alongside Kidman, said, “I was still a bit apprehensive but reuniting with Nicole is always so great and as talented as she as an actress, she is equally kind, caring, and wonderful to spend time with.” He also described the movie as “funny, romantic and entertaining.”

A Family Affair releases on Netflix on June 28, 2024.
