Chris Rock Turned Down a Will Smith Oscar Slap Joke in Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted

Jerry Seinfeld wanted Chris Rock to make a Will Smith Oscar slap joke in 2024’s Unfrosted; however, Rock turned the opportunity down.

Appearing on the Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade podcast, via IndieWire, Seinfeld revealed that he initially tried to get Rock to make an Oscar slap joke in 2024’s Unfrosted.

“Chris Rock was going to be the emcee of the Bowl & Spoon Awards,” Seinfeld said. “We shot that right after the Will Smith slap, and I was gonna have somebody come up on the stage and have Chris punch ‘em out as they got there.”

Rock ultimately didn’t appear in Unfrosted; rather, the emcee of the Bowl & Spoon Awards was played by Cedric the Entertainer.

“Chris wasn’t— he wasn’t up to perform, he was still a little shook from the event,” Seinfeld continued. “But that was what that scene was going to be, but Cedric saved the day.”

Unfrosted marks the feature-film directorial debut of Seinfeld. He also stars in the movie alongside Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Max Greenfield, Hugh Grant, Amy Schumer, Christian Slater, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Bobby Moynihan, and more.

“We loved writing the monologue for Jim about Milky Cashman, the first man who spilled milk into a bowl of cereal,” Seinfeld told ComingSoon in a recent interview about Unfrosted’s observational jokes. “That was a really fun scene because we wanted Jim to be a little distraught that no one knows the whereabouts of this great man. It was Moe Greene from The Godfather — the man who built Las Vegas, and he never received the recognition. So in our movie, that was Milky Cashman — the first man to spill milk on cereal. [Laughs].
