We Are the Champions is a rock song by the English rock band Queen, from their 1977 album News of the World.
It was written by the band’s lead singer Freddie Mercury, and produced by the band and Mike Stone.
The song was released as the A-side of a double-single on October 7, 1977, with We Will Rock You as the B-side.
The single was hugely successful and is unarguably one of Queen‘s most popular and signature songs.
It peaked at number four (4) on the US Billboard Hot 100, number two (2) on the UK Singles Chart, and never went below the number-fourteen spot on any chart worldwide.
We Are the Champions was certified 2x platinum in the US, is opined to be the catchiest in the history of popular music and was voted the world’s favourite song in 2005. It was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009.
Like We Will Rock You, the song has been covered and interpolated by various artists, as well as serving as a global sports anthem.
