197 People Served Punishment In China For Spreading Rumors Online

It’s no longer going to be business as usual for people who make a living from spreading information that hasn’t been verified.


In China, the authorities punished 197 people for spreading rumors regarding the countries. Users who left unverifiable comments as fact were not also spared. They were rounded off for churning out false information consigning China’s stock market plunge and the Tianjin explosions.


A quote from China’s Ministry of Public Security reads;


“misled society and the public, generated and spread fearful sentiment, and even used the opportunity to maliciously concoct rumors to attack [Communist] Party and national leaders.”


According to Xinhua news agency, 165 accounts were shut down following the development.
Wang Xiaolu who works with Caijing magazine was among the person’s the Chinese authorities swept, Wang later confessed to being subjective in his report which was entirely based on hearsay.
