Ryan Giggs basically appeared to do Louis van Gaal’s job for him during Manchester United’s defeat to Norwich on Saturday.

United slipped to a humiliating 2-1 loss against the Canaries at Old Trafford, making it six consecutive games in all competitions without a win for Van Gaal’s side.

The result also means that United will drop out of the top-four, and will surely only serve to increase the speculation over Van Gaal’s position – particularly given Ryan Giggs’ actions toward the end of the game.

With United desperately searching for an equaliser, the Welshman could be seen urging the players on…while Van Gaal was still sat on the bench.

While an assistant manager issuing instructions from the touchline is hardly a revolutionary move, it is in stark contrast to Van Gaal’s preferred style of in-game management.

‘I am always on the bench because my philosophy is that we have to prepare our players to play the match and when you are shouting on the sideline, there is nobody you can contact during the game – especially when we are home at Old Trafford,’ he told United’s official website last year.

In the aftermath of the result, United fans took to Twitter to call for the newly-available Jose Mourinho, but Giggs might just have something to say about that…
