Mesut Ozil Promises To Give ‘100 Percent’ Despite Uncertainty Over Future

Mesut Ozil has promised Arsenal fans he will “give everything” for the team despite the ongoing speculation about his future.

Ozil, like teammate Alexis Sanchez, has not signed a contract extension and could leave for free next summer — unless Arsenal decide to sell him in January.

But the Germany international told Sky Sports that the uncertainty will not affect his play or commitment to the club.

“I’m happy here, and I do my job to 100 percent as I always have. I give everything and leave it all on the pitch for the team,” Ozil said. “The most important thing is football. I want to give everything, 100 percent for this club. It’s important for me to give my all and enjoy playing as well. Whatever else happens, we will see in the future.”

It was reported earlier this month that he hasn’t ruled out staying at the Emirates beyond this season, while Arsenal’s majority owner Stan Kroenke said this week that he still hopes to keep hold of both Ozil and Sanchez.

“It’s very nice to hear that [Kroenke’s comments] and to see that — he’s the major shareholder,” Ozil said.

The midfielder was criticised for his performances at the start of the season but was back to his best in the 5-2 win at Everton last Sunday.

He is expected to be part of Arsenal’s front three against Swansea on Saturday alongside Sanchez and new signing Alexandre Lacazette — although he still prefers the more central role he had in Arsene Wenger’s traditional 4-2-3-1 system.

“Everyone knows my favourite position is the playmaker, the No. 10. At the moment the coach plays me on the right and it’s a thing I need to accept and to show my quality in that position,” Ozil said.

“Of course I’m happy to perform and give good performances individually, but it’s more important that we do that as a team. I think we did that really well against Everton. … We have lots of quality in this team as we have shown. It’s important to be consistent if we want to be successful.

“We know we have the quality, we just have to give our all and believe in ourselves. If we can do that I’m convinced we can win trophies.”
