How tanker crushed pregnant woman to death in Niger

A tanker driver on Monday crushed a pregnant woman to death along the Minna – Suleja road in Niger State.
The tanker driver who was on top speed, sped off after the incident but was apprehended by the police in Chachanga, some kilometers from the gate of the College of Education, Minna, the state capital, where the incident occurred.

The Nation gathered that the victim was a student of the department of Languages in the institution.


Following the incident, students of the institution blocked the major road in protest of the death of their colleague.

Some students who spoke as eyewitnesses were quoted to have said that the victim was on a commercial motorcycle and was about to take a U-turn when the tanker which was on a top speed came upon them.

The commercial cyclist escaped but the pregnant woman could not move and upon her arrival at the hospital, she was confirmed dead.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, who did not want his name mentioned in print, confirmed that the driver who was earlier apprehended by the FRSC was later handed over to the Police.


He said after two hours of protest, the Police were able to calm the students and brought the situation under control and they also tried to clear the road of traffic.
