One of Samsung's most popular phones explodes and it's not the Galaxy Note 7

One of Samsung's most popular device worldwide has exploded and it's not the already re-called Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

This time, it's the affordable Samsung Galaxy J5, an affordable device that seems to be one of the staples of Samsung's huge market share.

A Galaxy J5 exploded in the hands of Lamya Bouyirdane from France on Sunday. The woman noticed that her phone got unusually hot and quickly asked her four-year-old son to give it back to her during a family gathering at her home. She then threw the phone away when she saw it that it had swollen up and smoke was coming out of the device.

"I panicked when I saw the smoke and I had the reflex to throw it away," said Bouyirdane.

What happened next is familiar from the tens of exploding Note 7 stories that we've already read about: the phone caught fire and exploded with the back cover flying off. Luckily, the woman's partner was able to quickly extinguish the hot device and avoid additional damage.

Bouyirdane reports she bought the phone online last June at a website offering it with some discount. The woman is a mother of three in the southwestern French city of Pau, and it's chilling to even think about what could have happened if she did not take the device out of her kid's hands.

However, it still seems like this particular case is an isolated one. The Galaxy J5 has likely been selling in the millions and it's already been on the market for a few months with no other reports about it exploding.
