Those Truth That Were Lies - S01 E10

The house smelled of sweet and different delicacies as Evelyn graced the dinning room table with different meals in a bid to welcome her son back home.

‘ Food is ready, please proceed to the dinning room. ‘

The house maid announced.

They all proceeded to the dinning room, including Maria and her husband.

‘ Leo, please come and sit over here. ‘

Evelyn said. It was more than she could ever ask for, having her whole family seated together and most of all, having Leo back. She couldn’t help but see her late husband in him.

He is indeed a replica of his father both in appearance and character. Though she loved all her children; Leo was her favorite.

Leo sat next to his mother as they all ate.

‘ You haven’t changed one bit Mom, you’re still the best cook I know. ‘

Leo complemented.

‘ Thanks son. ‘

‘ So Leo, what are your plans? You’re finally going to settle here right? ‘

Steve asked.

‘ I was also meaning to ask same too. So? ‘

Anthony added.

‘ Yes, I think I’ve been away for too long.. ‘

Evelyn’s joy knew no bound hearing that her son was finally going to settle with them. She gently squeezed his hand.

‘ But first things first, I’ll be moving into my house tomorrow. ‘

‘ Why? ‘

Evelyn asked, obviously displeased

‘ Come on Mom, I’m a grown man. ‘

‘ I think he’s right Mom. You can’t babysit him forever. ‘

Maria added.

‘ Even so, how possible is that? I mean, you just got back. ‘

‘ Don’t worry, I’ve already spoken to a house agent. Enough about me, Maria; how’s it been with you. ‘

Maria looked at Steve and smiled.

‘ Fine . ‘

‘ Fine? Just fine? ‘ a simple reply didn’t sit well with Leo considering the fact that his sister always has something to say.

Steve cut in before Maria could reply

‘ I think she just doesn’t have the right words to say but all the same, we’re fine. Except the fact where she stresses herself and doesn’t take a word about rest. ‘

He replied and Maria forced a smile. How convenient it was for Steve to lie to her family.

‘ That’s good to know but Maria, you’re not looking any good, you have to listen to your husband. You need rest, you look drained. ‘

Evelyn added.

‘ Leo, are you coming back to the company? ‘

Anthony asked.

‘ Of course, what sort of a question is that?’

Evelyn retorted.

‘ I just want to be sure Mom, you know how Leo can be. ‘

Evelyn turned to Leo.

‘ You will right? You know that’s what your father would want. ‘

‘ I don’t know yet Mom but I’ll think about it but for the mean time, Anthony, other than work, what else have you been doing with your life? ‘

‘ What do you expect, he’s been doing bitches and smashing hearts. ‘

Maria laughed.

‘ Maria! You don’t have to be such a big mouth. ‘

Anthony mouthed.

‘ You’re not getting any younger Anthony. You need to get hooked up. You need to start having babies and a woman to call your own. ‘

Evelyn lamented.

‘ There is no fun in getting married this early. ‘ Tony said in his defense.

‘ And who said so? ‘

Leo asked.

‘ I agree with him you know? If I were to make a choice again, I’d get married in my fifties. It’s really not something any man would want to rush into, only desperate girls. ‘ Words rushed out of Steves mouth before he could control it.

Everyone stared at Steve with this ” ARE YOU SERIOUS? ” look on their faces. Maria was more than pained. She stepped on Steve’s feet .

‘ I mean um… One has to take his time to think it through. ‘

He added and tried to force a laugh.

‘ I know right! ‘

Anthony eyed him.

‘ I need to get dessert from the kitchen. ‘

Maria said.

‘ But Maria, dessert is right here on the table.’

Evelyn pointed

‘ Oh! I didn’t notice. ‘

There was an awkward silence in the dinning room

‘ I’ve got good news. ‘

Evelyn broke the silence, getting everyone’s attention.

‘ And what can that be? ‘

Leo enquired.

‘ There’s this friend of mine whose daughter just returned from the states and I think she’ll be a perfect match for Anthony. ‘

‘ What! ‘

Anthony exclaimed.

‘ That’s so much not all, I’ve arranged a blind date for you this weekend. ‘ She added

Maria couldn’t help but let out a loud laughter, Leo was not an exemption.

‘ No No No! Mom you can’t do this to me. ‘

‘ I already have and it’s for your own interest. Mirabella is a nice girl and I know you’ll like her. ‘

‘ No Mom! I won’t like her. ‘

‘ You will love her instead. ‘

Maria added and continued laughing.

‘ If you won’t, then introduce your girlfriend to me before weekend; No, your wife to be and we’ll forget this whole episode about Mira but if not, hell yes! You’re going on that blind date and that is final. ‘

‘ Game over bro! ‘

Leo laughed. Defeated, Anthony dropped his cutleries and buried his face in his palm.

ANTHONY

This time, I know I am between a rock and a sea. Evelyn Davis is a no nonsense woman who means what she says and says what she mean. I have just three days to get myself a fiancee or get stuck with this Mira of a girl.

Once a thing involves my mother, it never goes well for me and I never want to get pushed into any marriage. Worse of all, I can’t get a girl to pose as my wife to be, my mom is way smarter than that – a typical bullshit detector.

The only one that comes to my mind no matter how I think about it is April and there’s just no light at the end of that tunnel, absolute darkness. What do women want, I always wonder. Acting all stupid in front of their Mr Right. Of course I am her Mr Right. My reflection on the mirror confirms it.

Whether she likes it or not, she’s certainly going to go with me to see my mom on Friday . It’s operation break April’s wings and get her to surrender.

‘ Kira, I want flowers delivered to the address I just texted to you. ‘
