Those Truth That Were Lies - S01 E14

‘ If there’s anything I know I taught you so well – it’s the importance of family being together and most especially, time. Why are you late? ‘ My dad said the moment I walked through the door and I froze.

‘ And look who we have here. ‘ Louisa chanted with a bright smile on her face exposing those perfect white teeth she inherited from our mother.

She ran down to me as we hugged each other like our lives depended on it. It’s been ages since we last saw each other. She left the country with her husband immediately after marriage .

‘ Am I been left out? ‘ Daniella said.

‘ Oh come here baby. ‘ I beckoned on her.

She joined us as we locked ourselves in a reunion hug.

‘ It feels so good to see you all together like this. I mean, that’s the joy of father hood and the love that binds you extends my life. If I die today, I’ll sure die a happy man. ‘

‘ You certainly can not die anytime soon honey but you know, I really wish they were complete. ‘ mommy added.

We laughed as we all went to hug them both.

‘ Not for long anyways cause August is coming back next week. ‘

Daddy broke the news and we all started shouting for joy. It’s been over 10 years since August left the country and we couldn’t wait to see him. How big he has grown already.

Truth be told, I’ve never been this happy in a very long time. I felt genuinely happy to be home for the very first time in a long time.

‘ let’s go eat before the food gets cold. ‘ mommy announced.

‘ No, not yet. ‘ Daddy said.

‘ Why’s that dad? Are we expecting anyone? ‘ Louisa asked.

‘ Yes, someone will be joining us in a bit. ‘

‘Who’s that dad? ‘ I asked.

‘ Mr Alcott . April I want you to meet him and if possible, get to know him. ‘

My sisters turned uncomfortably trying as much as possible to hide the awkwardness in the air.

Every bit of his last statement broke me. Here I was thinking I could finally be happy with my family for once without been reminded about about my age or marriage but daddy had to make me realise that that was all in my head.

Immediately my countenance fell, he smiled.

‘ Come off it girls. We know what’s going through your minds but you see, that’s not what your dad meant and April no one is trying to find you a potential husband. ‘ Mommy countered my thought.

‘ Mr Alcott is the newest partner and one of the biggest shareholder in Bayer and I thought it is only right for you to meet him as my successor. ‘

My Dad added.

‘ How’s that possible? ‘

‘ Everything is so possible. Though you may not be in Bayer right now but it’s standing today as a result of the hard work you put in to it. I only wanted you to learn and experience a different life out there, Bayer is your home and when you’re ready, you’ll return to where you belong and its necessary that you meet people that you’re supposed to. That is why I asked Mr Alcott to have breakfast with us. ‘

I ran into my father’s arms.

‘ Thanks Dad. ‘ I said as he tapped my back.

‘ So Um… Anything on him? Anything I need to know beforehand? ‘ I added.

‘ No, apart from the fact that he just returned to the country after a long time and from a super rich family. You’ll get to see for yourself. ‘ dad replied.

‘ He’s fine, if you don’t mind me adding. ‘ Mom laughed

‘ So, how long do we have to wait for this Mr rich man? ‘ Daniella asked and just then, the door bell rang.

‘ Not for long, I guess that’s him. ‘ Mommy said and went to get the door.

Few seconds later, my mom walked in with a fine gentle man.

‘ Sorry I’m late Sir. Had a little issues to settle to this morning. ‘ He said.

‘ That’s not a problem at all. You’re here now and that’s all that matters. Anyways meet my family. ‘

And then he turned to face us.

‘ You! ‘ I exclaimed.

‘ Wow! Grumpy lady. ‘ he replied.

‘ You know each other?’ Danny asked.

‘ of course, I know this man w---e. ‘ I mumbled within myself.

‘ Did you say something? ‘ daddy asked.

‘ No sir, I didn’t. ‘

‘ okay then, Mr Gabriel Alcott, please meet my daughters April, Louisa and Daniella and of course, my wife. ‘

‘ Nice to meet you all and thanks for having me over. ‘ he replied.

‘ So, I guess we can now proceed to the dinning room. ‘ Mommy chipped in.

‘ Of course. ‘ Daddy laughed.

It was so much fun eating with the house filled up. We chatted about business, politics, weather and it was so awesome how Gabriel flowed with every single topic even as far as traditions. One would doubt that he wasn’t part of the family or he’s stayed out the country for such a long time.

And most of all, he was a joker. I bet no one would ever be bored around him. Even my Dad laughed so hard like I’ve never seen him before. The way Gabi talked one would doubt he was a man w---e who took pleasure in smashing hearts and fooling ladies but what could you expect, of course any lady will trip for his sugar coated talks.

But one thing I sure couldn’t place my finger on was his face. I try to ignore but he sure does look familiar; some how or just my head playing a mind trick on me.

After the meal, we settled in with my Dad to talk business and honestly, he’s very brilliant and if for one, I was happy that someone like him was a part of Bayer.

I saw him off as per my dad’s request

‘ Thank you. ‘ he said.

‘ You’re welcome. ‘ I turned to leave.

‘ For this morning, I really do appreciate it and I’m sorry for being rude . ‘ he added.

‘ Those things happen. ‘ I said.

‘ Can I make it up to you? ‘

‘ No need. Thanks for asking.. ‘

‘ I don’t really like No for answers, so please think about it . I’ll call you . ‘

I was pissed off but he didn’t wait for me to reply before driving off. If he thinks in anyway that I was going be a pawn on his chess ♣ board then he’s got a big one coming.
