The haunted bride - Season 2 - Episode 8

The voice said, “Do not cry, just be watchful!”

At once Elena’s eyes cracked open and she jumped to her feet. Something was definitely wrong.

“Is somebody there?” Elena quickly pulled out her phone and turned on the light.
But there was no one. She only felt the coolness of the evening breeze. As the figure that she had once seen in the morning, had faded into the darkness. The hairs on her back were erect, in wonder and in fear.
She didn’t need someone to tell her that it was time to run. Ghosts weren’t real, but she was starting to believe in their existence. Elena almost hit Idara, who carried a tray of steaming goat pepper soup. The lawyer had requested for her lunch.

“Are you alright Madam?” Idara stiffened, as she noticed that Elena was coming out of the forbidden wing.

Elena’s mouth felt dry. Surely, anyone who heard her experience would think that she was crazy.

“Yes, yes,” Elena nodded. But deep down, she knew that someone was in the darkness with her. Though she felt afraid, she was determined to discover the truth that lay in the dark hallway.

A sad smile danced on Idara’s lips, as she watched Elena leave for her room. She had to warn the new mistress, before they got to her, like they did, her first mistress.

After spending some time with his best friend, Aniekan had returned home very late, but not before trying Elena’s number and checking the Games Village for her. He felt like a douche bag for leaving her behind. He should have sent someone to take her back home.
The White House was as quiet as the night. The fire from the golden bulbs that hung on the mansion sparked with great intensity. As he strolled out from his car, Aniekan ran his eyes over his watch.

“11.PM,” he sighed and rolled his eyes. Well, he couldn’t blame himself for spending so much time with his best friend, whom he hadn’t seen in a long while. Seun was the only friend that he could trust with the prototype. Already, Ese was acting funny, and he needed to heed to his inner voice.
Aniekan didn’t trust his brother completely. Right from childhood, Ese had always been the irresponsible one; this was the reason that their parents had preferred him. He had fixed a date with Seun. Together, they would drive to the outskirt of Lagos, in search of Mr. George Bankole, the uncle to Seun; who owned and underground house.
The only sound that disturbed the silence that he enjoyed was that of running water. Aniekan paused and stared at the fountain; silver strands of clean water gushed from the openings like they were being chased by something. He pulled in a deep breath and marched into the house.
All he could think of now was Elena. He was in a confused state. He liked her, yet something within him fought against that likeness. Elena was a nice person; he just found it difficult to own up what he was feeling inside. He was about leaving for his room, when he decided to check up on her.
“I am just checking up on her, nothing else.” He murmured. Her room was located at the same wing as his’. He walked slowly and paused at her door. Aniekan’s heartbeat increased as he stared at the metallic door that separated him from her. What would Elena think of his visit? Would she be pleased to see him? Would she think that he had an ulterior motive?

All these thoughts clashed with his strong desire to see her face one more time. It was weekend, so she may probably leave to see her family. Though she was living with him, he couldn’t control her or cage her. She still had her freedom. But her job at the Games Village was binding. He missed her. He missed the warmth in her clear brown eyes, and her girlish smile. He missed seeing the locks of soft hair that fell at the sight of her face.
“Elena,” he tapped the door with his fist. He waited patiently for a response, but there wasn’t any. Was she sleeping? Was she ignoring him?

He raised his feet and dropped it on the door a second time; the tap was harder and more desperate. It almost split his flesh.

“I do not mean to disturb you, I just wanted to…” Aniekan paused, his tongue was tied. He was about leaving when a thought crossed his mind. Maybe Elena was too busy to hear his knock. He knew what he was about doing wasn’t right, but he had no evil intention.
He grabbed the door handle and twisted it to the left. The door gave way at once, and ushered him an invite, with an annoying noise. Calmness returned to him. The pounding in his chest subsided, and was replaced with a feeling of comfort. He felt at home. The sight of her angelic figure on the spring flowers themed bedcover was enough to make him feel happy.

Elena wore a light blue night gown. It was lacy and slightly revealing. Her soft and creamy white b-----s sprawled from a V opening and settled on the bed. Her long legs were crossed against each other. Aniekan noticed that she had slept off, leaving her laptop on and a jotter with some pens by the edge of the bed.

“Careless girl,” he smiled. He could guess that she had started working on a plot for Demon Hall2. Curiously, he walked over to the edge of her bed and sat on it. He loved the smell of her room. He also noticed that she had rearranged the way things were. Well, the feminine touch was always unique. There was something magical about the presence of women.

Aniekan turned off the computer first, before folding it and placing it on his lap. Next were the jotter, and the pens. He flipped the first page open and found a literary piece, which seemed like a poem.

“The End of the Blue River,” by Elena Benjamin,

“Interesting,” he marveled at her poetic prowess.

He kept running his eyes and fingers through different pages until he found the one he could relate to and hoped to see.

“Iralia: Demon Hall2,”

The first sentence that followed the title startled him. Was this purely a plot or was she immersing her own experience into the story?
“Iralia is a powerful female Angel. She falls in love with an older Angel, who wants nothing to do with her because of her age. But He soon needs Iralia’s help.”

Okay, this couldn’t be about his relationship with her. He knew he had made it obvious that he was far older than she was. He was about taking the next page, when she rolled over her belly and mumbled some words that he couldn’t understand. He rose to his feet and decided that it was time to leave. He dropped the items that he had taken from her bed on her reading table.

A smile curled on his lips as he stared at her smiling face. He couldn’t help but wonder what she was dreaming about. He found it difficult to resist the urge to kiss her in her sleep. Aniekan strolled towards the bed, and lowered his lips on her forehead.

“Goodnight darling,” he whispered into her ears. Satisfied that Elena was alright, he strolled out of her room, while gently closing the door behind. As he marched towards his room, he noticed that two of the bulbs that lighted the path had gone off.

Aniekan quickly pulled out his phone, so he could see better, as his vision at night was far from excellent. It was a wonder that he could drive back home at such a later hour. After perusing at the cookies that popped on his phone screen, Aniekan raised his head up.
A cold chill ran down his spine as he noticed a black figure staring at him through a hood. The eyes of the figure were black, almost lifeless. And they seemed very familiar. His blood froze, at the sight of such mystery.
“Who are you and how did you get in here?” Aniekan began to wonder if someone had followed him back to the house. But how was this even possible?
The figure didn’t move. It didn’t utter a word. It just glared directly at the tech-billionaire.

“Did you not hear me? You better start talking, before I call security!” Though his voice was sharp and stern, his heart raced. He was afraid. His hands were shivering.
When the figure was done glaring at the owner of the house, it spun on its heel and began to walk.
