Story: True Life Story Of An Addict

(There is a scar on my left hand right now, courtesy of Deola. She surely wanted to make a statement. So, she felt living a mark on me will indeed give me something to remember her for life, eventhough she later apologized).

My heart flew to my mouth. She had removed her skirt and top, and was left with tight-pant and bra. Her veins fully in rage and her eyes were almost spitting fire. She held the knife like those extremists do if they wanna slice someone’s throat. Mo rogo (I am in soup)!

Me: What is that on your hand Deola?

Deola: What does it look like…player?

Me: I don’t know what you’re talking about but please, go and drop that knife back in the kitchen.

Deola: How dare you Femi? How dare you? You think I am a fool? I loved you. I gave you my body. I accepted and absorbed all your insults just to please you. I was there for you when you were sick. And what did I get in return? Lies. Unfaithfulness. Deception.

Me: Deola please calm down. Let’s talk like mature people. Put that knife down.

Deola: You’re no longer in the frame of how we met. Tell me, how did you do it: hotels, clubs, …where? Here in your house? On that your God-forsaken bed? How many Femi? How many of them? 3? 4? 10? ANSWER ME!

Me: Put that knife down Deola. Don’t do what you will regret later.

Deola: You should have allowed me drop off when I opened the door. At least that would have meant I will die alone. But now that I am here, definitely one of us is gonna die today!

Me: God forbid Deola! What has come over you? Drop that knife.

She moved towards my direction gradually, swinging the knife from left to right like a trained butcher! I retreated, trying to cut some corners and find a way of escape. She kept trailing me and looking bent on using the knife on me.

Deola: TALK to me Femi. How many of them has been here?

Don’k ask me how I felt because, whether you believed it or not, I wet my pants. I saw the devil in her eyes. I wasn’t lucky with positioning myself in the sitting room that day. She trailed me to a tight corner and blocked out every escape route.

Me: Deola don’t give-in to what your heart is telling you to do please.

Deola: Answer my question!

Me: Deola stop!

One more step, and bang! She waded the knife across my face but I blocked it with my left hand. Within few seconds, blood started drooping. The flow was so heavy that when she couldn’t stand the sight of it, she dropped the knife, got dressed, took up her bag and left. I blocked the flow of blood with my hand and ran downstairs to Garfar,

Me: Please go lock my door and keep the keys. I’ll be back soon.

When Garfar saw what I was trying to hide, he screamed at me,

Garfar: Ha! Oga, wetin happen? Oga wetin happen?

Me: Don’t worry. Just do what I asked you to.

I walked as fast as my legs could carry me to a nearby pharmacy.

Attendant: What happened?

Me: It was a domestic accident. I was trying to get something done in the kitchen with a knife but accidentally, I cut myself.

Attendant: You’ve got to be careful sir next time. You’re very lucky it didn’t cut that deep, it would have cut off your vein.

Me: I will be careful next time.

I got treated, plastered and got some drugs. I had no time to reflect on what actually entered Deola and made her behave that madly. My rational mind was just screeming: she’s demon possessed. It would have been worse had I not blocked the direction of the knife. She was aiming at my face. My world! That day was the most tragic day of my life. Never will such happen again to me in Jesus name. I mean, Ini just died few hours ago, and now, I am in the clinic, battling for my life because of a lady with a hurty spirit.

Waves of attack,
Thank God I survived;
Life for life,
Amen, the strife is o’er!

River of pain and regrets,
Waves of fear and torment;
Echoes of shame indepth,
Diary of wail and lament!

I’ve paid for my sins,
With my own blood;
I hope now I can be at peace,
Deola, you are a bye-gone!

Upon my stance I stand,
There is no going back;
We’ve reached the end of the road,
Deola, it’s time to let go.

Yes I admit to my unfaithfulness to her but is cutting off the head an antidote for headache? Besides, the supposed ‘rival’ is dead. Can’t she just respect that fact and move on? No. Deola is not like that. She took matters into her hands…and way over-board. Right there, I decided her fate. It was straight-forward and simple. I just echoed Mary’s words: “We are done.” That’s exactly what I sent to her. I went back home with my swollen hand. If this is my reward for cheating on Ini, I think she was merciful enough.

In one day, a day I experienced one-too-many things, I lost Iniobong, and now, I quit my relationship with Deola. I lost two good girls in one day! What a life. Sometimes if you’re way too smart over your head, life has a way of getting at you. I have been a phony, subtle and smart with girls. I never caught until today. And the reward? I lost two girls (one to death) and got a swollen hand!
