Must Read: Cyber lover - Season 1 - Episode 44

Inspector Jack Davison was livid when he saw
the naked body. She‟d been fished out of the
water with a fishnet a local fisherman had
lent the force a few minutes ago for this sole
purpose. Her eyes were still wide open as if
frozen in wild fright and her body had knife
stabs all over it. “How long has she been
dead?” he asked the police doctor on the
case. “Two days at the most.” “Wow…so
sad….” Jack shook his head as he said this.
“This is of the utmost priority, doc,” he told
the officer. “We‟ll need your report ASAP!”
“Yes, sir. I‟ll begin the examination
immediately!” “I want to know if you find
anything…someone‟s blood…sperm…hair…
whatever. The government is keen on putting
an end to this murder spree and they have
invited Inspector Bromsbey from Scotland
Yard to join the investigation as we search for
Nimrod.

We wanna know if he‟s acting alone or with
accomplices.” “You are welcome, sir!” the
doctor told the white man standing beside the
Nigerian inspector. “How was your trip?”
“Alright, doctor…off to work!” cut in his
superior. “You can enquire about that when
our job is done here!” Bromsbey, on his own
part, was smiling at the doctor.“A pleasure
meeting you, doctor,” he now said as the
police physician saluted his Nigerian
counterpart and walked away. He was a short,
fat man with little bulbous eyes, and Jack had
never for once thought he‟ll be nothing but a
great deal of help in this impossible case they
were yet to unravel. His professionalism and
intelligence superseded him.

“Once again, you‟re welcome to Nigeria,
inspector.” “Thank you, Jack…a nice country
you‟ve got here!” “Well, we do our best, my
friend…although certain citizens of this great
nation keep making our job a very difficult
one as you can see here.” He flipped open the
white cloth covering the dead girl for the
other man to see and they just stood there
staring at the bloated body. “Poor girl,” finally
said Bromsbey, turning to the small river.
“How did you know she was in the water,
inspector?” “Some fishermen found her
floating body a few hours ago, sir, and please
call me Jack.” “And Nimrod…where does he fit
into all of this?” “We believe he did this since
a witness to another crime said she saw him
commit that other offence in the same fashion
we now see here, my friend,” replied the
Nigerian. “Though we‟re yet to get any hard
evidence linking him to that other deed,” he
added as an afterthought. “They must have
wiped their fingerprints clean from the knife
they used in that murder.

Our divers are scouring the river bed as we
speak in search of a knife right now, and I
pray they just threw this one away without
wiping it clean of their prints this time.” “So
there is an accomplice?” “That‟s the line I‟m
towing for now, inspector…remember that
according to our witness, another man held
Nimrod‟s first victim for him as he did the
stabbing. I don‟t think Nimrod did this alone
either.” “Rope?” “Maybe, but I still have this
hunch, inspector…I‟ve never been wrong
before.” Both men were now walking away
from the shore towards the squad cars still
blipping their sirens and illuminating the still
night with their force lights. Three other
forensic experts from Scotland Yard were
unpacking their equipment from the trunk of
their sophisticated-looking van. Jack found
himself wondering what kind of equipment
was inside the behemoth thing.

Officer Kennedy saluted them halfway to their
destination. “OK, Ken, what do you have for
me?” “We…We are yet to get Mr. Black at
home, sir,” said the police officer. “What do
you mean by that, my friend? Have you tried
calling him?” “Several times, sir…but his
phone is always switched off.” “What of his
office?” “That is where we got his number,
sir…they said they will notify him when they
get to him…seems he‟s on an assignment for
his company outside town, sir.” “But the
officers you sent to his house the day before
said they saw his car parked there, right?”
asked Bromsbey. “Yes, sir,” agreed Kennedy.

“Maybe he didn‟t go with the car, then.” “Keep
trying to get him, Ken,” ordered Davison,
swinging open his patrol car‟s door as he
spoke. “We don‟t want him to be the fifth
victim now, do we?” * * * Michael arrived in
front of Brenda‟s door at exactly 11:00 a.m.
on Saturday, looking elegant in a dark-red T-
shirt and blue jeans. Brenda couldn‟t help
admiring that handsome figure the moment
she opened the door for him to enter.

She instantly felt that it was going to be hard
to resist him if Cain did not sweep her off her
feet when he showed up like that in some
days‟ time. “I didn‟t think that you will be
coming this early,” she said, smiling. Michael
sat down and said, “If I had my way, I would
have been here early enough to have breakfast
with you. Where is Jane?” “Oh, she is in the
bedroom preparing for her date with Brad, her
fiancé.” Then loudly, “Jane, Michael is here!”
Jane came out almost immediately. “Hi,
Michael. Nice seeing you, it‟s a pity I will be
going out soon.” “That‟s okay. No wonder you
are looking so beautiful. Your fiancé must be
very proud of you.”

Jane spent only a few minutes with them
before Brad came to pick her up. From the
way Brad looked at him, it was obvious that
he approved of Michael‟s involvement with
Brenda. He made Michael promise to take care
of Brenda before finally going out with Jane.

Again, Michael was alone in the house with
Brenda. What shall I offer my Mr. Handsome?”
Brenda was standing in front of him in an
attempt to get whatever he requested. Michael
was glad to know that she thought he was
handsome. “A bottle of Maltina will do.” “So
what is your plan for today?” she asked as she
opened the bottle of Maltina.

She sat close to him and paid attention to his
face. “I will like it if we hang around in your
house for a while, then we can go out in the
evening.” “Okay,” she accepted in a lovely,
gentle voice. “I have spent the whole of this
week thinking of this moment. And I am so
glad that it has finally come,” he said.

“Really? Then why didn‟t you sq££ze out
time to pay me a visit during the week? You
didn‟t even call everyday as you promised.” “I
wished I could but I had a very hectic week.

But trust me, you were always here.” He
touched his heart. “I was busy at the tail of
the week also. I had to go for a job test on
Thursday and I was called for an interview on
Friday.” “Yea, that reminds me; how did you
fare?” “It was cool, I am very positive that I
will be called for the job. Besides, my internet
friend told me the job is mine.” “Can you tell
me about your cyber friend?” This was the
topic he‟d wanted her to throw up, and now
that she had done so, he wasn‟t going to leave
it so easily. “I have been waiting to tell you,
Michael,” she began with some enthusiasm,
“but I really need you to believe and promise
me that you won‟t think that I am making it
up or going crazy.” “It‟s all right, you can tell
me everything,” he assured her. Brenda had
thought it a good idea to tell Michael the
story of Cain because she had seen him as a
good listener right from the very first time
they had stayed together.
