The work been so stressful wasn’t helping matters, buh i was willing to take the risk. Everyday, i will wake up in the morning take my bath, ate my food and off to work, buh off to school in my mother’s mentality.

”Chuks, you re getting darker and ur body shape is changing” my mother will always be saying, without knowing the secret behind it.

Its been 2 months i left school, 2 months i left Teresa, 2 months am hiding truth, and 2months i started working. Having saved up to 80k, i was bow willing to say the truth. The day i determined to say the truth was also the same day my brother had an accident.

I was on my way back home, when my phone ringed. My mom was calling . She had thought that i was already back from school, so my phone won’t be far from me.

Mom: *broken voice* Emy, re you back from school?

Me:: yes, am back *feeling guilty* any problem, where re you?

Mum: am in the hospital ooh, with Kece. He had an accident.

Me:: oh my God. Which hospital is that?

She told me the name of the hospital, and i left for the hospital.

I got to the hospital, seeing my mom, i went to the place where she was sitting.

Me:: mom, what happened?

Mum: he had an accident oh.

Me:: so how is he now?,

Mum: the doctor hasn’t come out since he went into the emergency room.

We were still discussing, when the emergency door opened, the doctor came out from the room.

Me:: doctor , how is he?, hope he will be alright?

Doctor: sure, he will. *turned to my mom* pls ma, can i see you in my office?

My mom left with the doctor. Am some mins, she came out with a sad nor happy face.

”The doctor said that we re to deposit 10,000 out of the 20,000 he will charge us. Where am i going to get that amount.” she said.

Me:: Mum dont worry, the most important thing is that my brother will be fine.

I left for the doctor’s office, since i knew money was to be involved, i packaged enough money for the treatment. ”sign here” the doctor said with a happy look.

After the closed meeting with the doctor, we both came out from his office, holding each other, smiling. The doctor might be happy with the money i paid him, his smiling may be pure, buh Mine looks somehow. ”who is smiling with you kwanu” *inwardly* i gave him one kind of evil look.

Doctor: ma, ur son will be fine. No need to worry., everything has be taken care of by him *pointing at me*.

Mum: by who?

Doctor: by ur son also. He paid everything g without leaving a danm bill. You should encourage him, he is hardworking , he just need ur support.

Mum: my son , i know never work, not to talk of paying the hospital bill. Son is that not so??

Me:: mum, i know it looks so confusing now, buh i will explain to you later.

Mum: so what he said is truth.

Me:: i will explain later to you.

Doctor: i will examine him again, to check if he has any damage.

Mum: ok sir.

Me:: mum, i think i should us somethings to eat, cause me am not going back to that house without you or kece.

Mum: ok son. *searching her purse* i can’t find my purse,

Me:: you left it at home. I will go get the food.

Mum: *smiling* oh, ”ma obughi ma nwa onye ga enye m” *singing an igbo song that praises a son or daughter*.

I laugh as i left the hospital. I was looking for a place to buy cooked food, i didn’t see any, so i decided to buy coffee and bread from the supermarket nearby. After picking the bread i want, i went over to the cashier to pay, i gave her her money and was about to leave when i heard her say.

Cashier: sir, here is ur phone, it fell off from ur pocket.

Me:: *surprised* oh, thank You so much. Can i buy you a drink ?

Cashier: some other time.

Me:: ok, thank you. I really appreciate.

I left the supermarket, as i was going home, i brought out the phone, knowing fully well that it wasn’t mine, ”buh i can’t let this opportunity of getting a bigger phone walk pass me” i said to the part of me that said i should return the phone. I opened the phone, only to see Teresa photo on the screen.
