‘ Hey! Leonard, what a big surprise. ‘

Anthony hugged Leonard.

It’s been up to five years since they last saw each other. Leo travelled to the states after the sudden death of his wife Laura during child birth. At some point, many thought he might not survive it. It wasn’t a good idea to stay around though his family was there to support him but there were too many memories.

After the death of their father, a year after, he was asked to come back to run his father’s company as the first son but he refused. According to him, it was too much to take because he was really close to his father and so, Anthony had to take over the company.

‘ I’m so happy to see you bro! When did you return? ‘

‘ Last night . ‘

‘ And you didn’t call me, I would have picked you from the airport. Where are your things? Does mom know that you’re around? Did you call Maria? ‘

‘ Wooow! Too many questions. Which should I answer first?. ‘

They laughed.

‘ I’m so excited to see you bro! ‘

‘ Me too. You’ve grown so much. ‘

‘ Come on bro, I’m not a child and besides, you’re only six years older than I am. ‘

Leo laughed. Age has always been a thing for Anthony to argue about and he hasn’t changed one bit.

Anthony called his secretary and cancelled all his meetings for the day.

‘ Why’s that? ‘

‘ We’re going to get your things and then straight up home. This calls for a big time celebration. ‘

Anthony picked his keys as they headed to the door.

‘ Who was that lady, the one that bumped into me? ‘

Anthony smiled.

‘ Don’t think about it! ‘

Leo laughed. He knew Tony to be a player but from the look on his face, seems this one was giving him a hard time.

‘ Where are the files you were supposed to send to my office this morning? I’ve received calls from the factory already and yet! Your incompetent self is busy lazing around! ‘

Bianca said immediately she barged into April’s office.

‘ I’m through with those files, it’s on the CEO’s desk. If it hasn’t gotten to you then I don’t know why. ‘

‘ Why is it in the CEO’s office when I am the Managing Director? ‘

‘ He requested i report to him directly. ‘

‘ Is it so or you personally decided to go there to sway your hips at his face. ‘

‘ Are we still talking about the same thing here ma’am? ‘

‘ What else? You seem to have forgotten your place in this company. ‘

‘ With all due respect ma’am, if you have any issues with the CEO requesting that I by pass you and report to him directly then you have to go to him and not say unnecessary words to me. ‘

‘ What? ‘

‘ Now, if you don’t mind, have a good day Miss Anderson. ‘

In disbelief, Bianca angrily stormed out of April’s office swearing to push her out of Anthony’s life and the company.

‘ Baby girl! ‘

Nancy called as she lightly hugged April.

‘ How was work! ‘

‘ It was fine though bitches don’t want to stay out of my way. ‘

‘ Then unleash April on them. ‘

They laughed

They both walked in to the house. Everywhere look untidy much to April’s disappointment.

‘ where’s my baby? ‘

‘ I just went to lay him upstairs o. ‘

‘ Nancy, I don’t mean to pry but then, why’s your house like this? ‘

‘ Ah! Forget it joor, I was a little tired today, having a child is a big responsibility. ‘

‘ How will Andrew feel if he comes back and meets this place like this? ‘

‘ That is why Andy is my husband. He will have to help me out. ‘

‘ Help you out? To take a bath too? Your hair looks so unkempt. You’re supposed to be glowing. What’s with this dreaded wrapped you’ve formed the habit of tying? ‘

‘ Did you come to lecture me? ‘

‘ I didn’t but come on, where’s the sexy Nancy I know. You wouldn’t want your husband to start looking outside. You’re beginning to make yourself look old. ‘

‘ Look who’s talking, marriage counselor. Tell me what happened joor. I need undiluted gist. ‘

‘ Not with your house like this babe. Let’s clean it up before your husband gets back. ‘

April took off her jacket and heels and got to work while Nancy stared at her. It was her house and besides, Andy her husband has always done the house chores whenever he got back from work and she doesn’t see anything wrong with it.

In a couple of minutes, April was done cleaning up the house.

‘ Are you now ready to tell me what happened? ‘

Nancy said with her face buried in her phone. Just then the door flung open and Andrew came inside.

‘ Hey babe. ‘

Nancy greeted.

‘ Good evening Andrew. ‘

‘ What a pleasant surprise. Evening April. How are you? ‘

‘ I’m fine. ‘

She stood up and parked her things on the couch

‘ I think I’ll have to take my leave now. ‘

‘ So soon? ‘

‘ Yes Nancy, I’m really exhausted but I’ll drop by during the weekend. ‘

‘ Drive safe. ‘

She walked out of the house.

‘ Nancy, the house looks unusually clean today, what happened? Any secret? ‘

Andy sprawled on the couch. It was a question worth asking because ever since Nancy gave birth to their son, she became a new person entirely – a lazy person. She doesn’t do house chores anymore, she doesn’t cook. All in the name of; being a mother is a big responsibility.

‘ Courtesy to April. ‘

Andrew sighed

‘ I thought as much, did you cook? ‘

‘ No I couldn’t. Junior was… ‘

‘ you’re just a mother of one for God sakes. Where is he now? Sleeping upstairs right? And yet you use him as an excuse. Do you know how my day went? No! You never ask but you’ll gracefully sit down and expect me to cook and clean after the day’s work Nancy. ‘

Andrew lamented

‘ Give me a break Andy! What’s with all the complains? Do you know how I get through everyday? Do you… ‘

Andrew interrupted her midway

‘ Fine! Tell me, what do you do? ‘

‘ I take care of junior, I breast feed him, I sing for him when he cries… ‘

‘ Can you listen to yourself? Why can’t you try to be reasonable here. Let me get you a maid, you bluntly refused . Nancy I’m getting tired. ‘

‘ Getting tired of I and your son right? You want to push us out of your life and you’re looking for a perfect excuse. ‘

Nancy broke down and started crying.

‘ Can you stop with the emotional blackmail? Why don’t you go out there and ask your friends who are married with kids, how many of their husbands come back home to clean and cook. ‘

‘ But it’s your duty to support me Andy. ‘

‘ Support you but not this way Nancy. You know what? I’m tired and hungry. ‘

He picked his car keys and headed for the door.

‘ Where are you going to? ‘

‘ To a restaurant, I’m hungry and too tired to start cooking. ‘

‘ Since when did you start eating out? ‘

‘ You can ask my wife that question. When was the last time I came back home and there was food on the table for me. ‘

‘ Andrew! ‘

Nancy yelled

‘ Save your strength wife, junior will be needing it later. ‘

He banged the door behind him.
