“Wonderful.” Mrs. Animashaun exclaimed.
“Please can someone explain to me what is going on here?” Sadiq who was as confused as
Humaira and Asmau asked.

“You remember the story I told you about the seer?” his mother asked him.

“Yes.” nodded Sadiq.
“Remember I told you about our neighbor back then when we were in the village. That you once
called the woman mother and we decided to leave for Lagos because the seer had said that we
would soon start seeing the signs.” his mother explained and everyone where attentive.

“Yes I remember.”
“They are the family; they were our neighbors back then. And Mrs. Sa’adatu was the woman
you called mother when you were a toddler.”
Sadiq’s mouth was open in awe.

“Allah sariki!” exclaimed Mrs. Sa’adatu.
“When I came back to the village, I was told you left.” Mrs. Animashaun to Mrs. Sa’adatu.
There was a sigh from her.

“We had no choice than to leave for Kano.” Began Mrs. Sa’adatu. “When we had our child, as it is our custom, the seer was summoned. He said as long as our child stays with us, she will never get old, she will die before her parents and that the best way to avert such calamity would be for us to deliver her to him and he would give her out in adoption. He said some day destiny will bring us back together.”

Mrs. Animashaun and her husband exchanged glances.

“How many years was that?” asked Mr. Animashaun.
“Seventeen years ago. She should be seventeen years now. Believe me it was the hardest decision we have ever made. That was why we left almost as soon as you people left.” she said, and the look on her face suggested that she wanted to see her daughter again. She might not even recognize her if she sees her, but she just wanted to see her and know that she is all right.

“Asmau.” Mrs. Animashaun called. Asmau stood up from the chair she had been cringed in for
hours.
