Must Read: Behind The Veil

There was a striking resemblance between them, between Asmau and Hauwa; Mrs. Sa’adatu last born.

“Seventeen years ago I found Asmau in front of my door step when I came to the village.” she
said, drawing her closer. “Is this your daughter?” she asked and Alhaji Ibrahim and his wife eyes
fell on Asmau. There was indeed a striking resemblance.

“Allah sariki!” exclaimed Mrs. Sa’adatu pulling Asmau closer and observing her. “By God she
looks exactly like her father.”
It was the most awkward and uncomfortable feeling for Asmau. Being tossed around and
observed. The reality that she might leave this house and join her biological parents hit her.

This whole thing didn’t come as a surprise to her.

Two years ago was when she knew that she must have been adopted because everyone kept saying she didn’t look like her parents, everyone she met asked her why she looked like an Hausa while her parents were Yoruba.

That was when she realized that she wasn’t the biological child of Mr. and Mrs. Animashaun, but she didn’t care. The love they had for her was even beyond the love some parents had for their biological children. They never for once made her feel like she was adopted, not once!

Sometimes destiny cannot be completely controlled or changed. Sometimes it just has to
happen and sometimes it can be entirely avoided. But most times some things are just meant to
happen to pave way for greater or lesser things. Sometimes we want what is not good for us…
and despise what is good for us only because we really can’t see the future to know exactly what
will benefit us…and that is why….although no matter how prayerful you may be…a certain
calamity may befall you, but then it doesn’t signal d end of you, it’s just a calamity that
would open doors to better things that wouldn’t have come if you were in your comfort zone.

Afflictions are blessings in disguise, sometimes.
What transpired between them was a circle of destiny. Sometimes some events are meant to
correct destiny and put them in our favor.

The chance of Sadiq being at the wrong place at the
right time was all part of destiny, a destiny that would lead him to saving a life. If this destiny
was tampered with, if Asmau wasn’t adopted, Asmau would have been the girl at the scene of
the bomb blast and not Hauwa and Sadiq wouldn’t have been there to save her because
destiny would have pulled him to Lagos where he would be schooling in Unilag and not Bayero uni, and that’s how Asmau would have died.
